I have an opportunity to purchase an SVS 2039 PC-service.
"This is older PC style enclosure with a new ISD driver and a new service amp."

Now i have a serious WAF problem. Does anyone know how much the older enclosure differs from their current PCi offering?

Thanks

I'll defer to Doc Spec here on your question, but ask one of my own... Is this an SVS or some tweaker's offering?

And I'll throw in an obervation at no extra charge. Seems weird to be reading about an "old SVS" anything...

The very first generation SVS's used sonotube. They have long since moved to a muh thicker/stronger proprietary tubing.

This could be an early model sonotube PC enclosure, with the Improved Standard Driver and the current 320 watt BASH amp. These upgrades were popular with original PC (as opposed to PCi) owners.

It will probably perform just fine, but personally I'd pull the driver and amp and send some digi pics to SVS to make sure you are getting the latest technology they offer. They made changes over the years to the BASH amps (like variable phase) and have also incorporated custom EQ curves and infrasonic high pass filters to optimize the FR and protect the woofer.

I have been monitoring the SVS Bstock page every day for months now. Yesterday I was so happy to see my PCi 2039 in bstock, but when I added it to my cart it told me that there was no more stock.

I sent an email to SVS and received a quick reply saying that someone must have bought it out from under me :(

They do have "This is older PC style enclosure with a new ISD driver and a new service amp." that they are willing to sell.

And thanks to Doc I am much more knowledgble now.

I do have a question though.

Can you notice the difference in the enclosures if the driver and amp are the same as the current offerings?

Is there a visible difference in the enclosures?

    Thanks again for the replies.

Ask SVS if its the current production 320 watt BASH amp. If so, I think you'll be OK. I don't think externally you could tell the difference in the cylinders. Ask SVS if the cylinder is sonotube or the newer stuff. Either way I think it will perform the same.

    Thanks Doc

I have posed those questions to SVS. I belive it is the new 320 BASH amp, so I will wait to see if it is the sonotube.

But based on your suggestion, I may take it as you say it would not make much of a difference.

Now for a new DVD player.... (did not have a clue this was going to cost me this much)

Maybe we'll see audio equipment from Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, etc.
