two SL1000 tweeters, NEED WORK

Just looking to see if anyone wants two slightly blown SL1000 tweeters. These are silver dome tweets out of a pair of Monitor 5jr speakers. One is an original dated 1985, and one is a warranty replacement unit dated 1985 as well. Both of them have some form of sound degredation. When I purchased the speakers, one of the tweeter protection fuses was blown, but the other was intact. Previous owner must've had no clue...

Anyway, these can be yours for the price of shipping... not sure if they could be fixed or not. Not a big deal if noone wants them, they'll just go to the transfer station (read-dump). Pictures will be up later this afternoon.

This'll be the last bump to this thread. Pictures are at www.king-nerd.com/dood/sl1ktweet.htm

If noone steps up by Friday, they're going to the dump. Even if you just want the faces, I'd be happy to detach the magnet structure and all that, so shipping would be cheap. The silver faces are in good condition, but would look even better with a little cleaning.

Okay, I'll take them to the Post Office tomorrow. Is USPS Priority okay? It's the easiest for me. Also, I just hooked them up, as I had forgotten the exact condition of them.

The warranty replacement unit makes very little sound at all. There is some sound coming out of it, but not a whole lot. The dome on this one looks a little crumpled around the edges, perhaps this is the problem?

The original unit is the better of the two. I was actually not able to hear any distortion when I was testing it. I didn't drive it too hard, but I thought that I remembered more distortion than what I was hearing. Not sure about that, though.

Again, I'll take 'em to the PO tomorrow and get a shipping quote. They'll be shipped in those boxes, which were the ones Parts Express shipped me my replacement Peerless tweeters in (when they were still making them...)

_I_ didn't melt anything :) . They were like that when I bought the M5jr speakers at a thrift store. I replaced them with Peerless tweeters and am simply trying to get rid of them.

Good advice for hotwheelman, though... If he can actually use these things, all the more power to him.

Slightly blown to me means that they do produce sound, but it's of poor or reduced quality. Hotwheelman- I PM'ed you two days ago. No response?

Got the sl's sat. and was able to get them up and running again, one was shifted against the v.c. gap and was not able to move very well, the other ones v.c. was kicked out and on an angle and was trapped by the magnet plate. I realigned them in the gap and both work well now and I am going to give them a try in the mon. 7's I have. Noah if you need these for the 5's just let me know.

    Cheers,
    Mike

As in the reply to your PM, they're yours to keep. The Peerless replacements I have in my 5jr's please me well enough, so there's no point in shipping these back. They've been sitting in my basement for about 2 years.... Glad you could fix 'em. Put 'em to good use!
