I Love This Country...

I was driving home from a long weekend with my girlfriend and was just awe struck with how beautiful this country is. I know this is kind of out of the blue, but after a nice long weekend I couldn't help but survey the landscape on my way home. I enjoyead a beautiful sunset the whole way back to Milwaukee. I wish I could have taken some pictures. I may have to do so the next time I drive that way.
I guess it doesn't hurt that Fall is my favorite time of year and we have such a distinct version of that season here. Really awesome!
Take some pics of your local area if you've got any!

In ole Virginia, today was one of the more beautiful days we have had in a long, long time. Perfectly saphire blue skies with only a few clouds. The temps hovered between the upper 60's and lower 70's. I love to have my windows down, but today it was just a tad too chilly to let the elbow out. Very little humidity - which is a beautiful blessing.
I took the opportunity to drive into the country and roam around places I have never been. Your right Demi, it is a truly beautiful place.

That's awesome. Exactly what I'm talking about. It's just something about being alone and taking a cruise and checking out all the subtleties. I'd love to visit VA sometime...hear it's beautiful this time of year and into October. -

Very nice day!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

We had an orange sunset last night that was truly breath-taking. After a weekend long rain (rare for SE Arizona) the Turquoise skies appeared with an orange glow..it was beautiful.

1) weather
2) scenery
3) standard of living
This of course only applies to us normal people. -
Driving the hills of Virginia and West Virginia is the most enjoyable I have ever taken. Beats the Smokies down South or the Rockies in Colorado. Of course living in the middle of Indiana it makes it easy to appreciate something others may not even give a second thought about. I would trade all the race cars and tracks for one good sized mountain any day!
Sounds like you had a good day.

I flew from Houston to Hartford yesterday. There was temp difference of 40F between two cities. Friends took me to the Big E straight from the air port and I ended up shivering for the rest of the day in my half sleeve Tee.-izafar

Hmm, out by Cleveland we get cold mornings, scorching afternoons, a late fall and a late Spring, gotta love the lake.
As for sunsets, it been pretty cloudy, makes for those wierd red tinged clouds, pretty and freaky. -

Frank, I have some friends attending CU. I have visited them a couple times. Colorado is one beautiful place for sure. Driving up to Breckenridge was fun just looking out the car window like a dog. I am grateful for the similar surroundings Seattle has to offer as well. Great pics by the way.

The USA is a great place to call home. I've spent time in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, California, Tennessee, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, Washington, and of course Colorado. I've driven through a whole lot more as well. Each was special in it's own way and I was glad to have been able to see them all, not as much as I would have liked though. I have to admit that there's no place like Colorado, at least for me.
How about the rest of you folks, let's see some pics!! -
Colorado is very nice but the Alps are definately my favourite.

Oh my gosh!
It has been way too long since my Colorado visits.
The Swiss Alps?......mmmmmmmmm Now that does sound interesting.

doro,
I live in Colorado Springs. -
Frank - OK, I'll look that up on the old map. I have been flying into Denver for about 10 years for the "Man" trip to the Wyoming property.

I wish I had pictures Frank. I did alot of scenery viewing in the Boy Scouts. Much of which is on unspoiled Boy Scout reservations or in pristine wilderness preserves.
I can say one thing though. There are few greater feelings in this world than to stand on top of a mountain and just look at the world around you!
I often take my camera with me but I get so struck by the beauty that I forget to take pictures. I've stood on mountains and seen 5 states from my vantage point. I've stood in spots right here in NJ that are several feet below sea level. I've spent time in Vermont, New York, Massachucettes(sp?), Conneticuit, Rhode Island, New Jersey (of course), Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Florida, California, Hawaii and of all the states I've been to, I could have been looking at a sea of wheat and corn or an ocean's worth of water while standing knee deep in saltwater marshes, I could have watched a bald eagle fly for hours over my head with a pair of binoculars or followed a mother bear and her cubs as they walked along the next ridge over. I've stood on a ship in the middle of the Pacific ocean watching dolphins riding the bow wave and pelicans diving for dinner. I've watched the sun go down on a horizon so flat that you couldn't help but watch the mesmerizing view of the sunlight dancing across the sky. I've even stood on a mountain, tossing rocks into Lake Champlain while staring at Canada with the Northern Lights dancing overhead but where ever I have been, the beauty is were you find it.
Everybody bashes NJ but honestly, some of the most gorgeous land is here. If that isn't your taste, we'll take a drive to Pennsylvania and see land so old it gives you the willies!
A couple things I want to do before I leave this earth. I want to stand on the Rocky Mountains and I want to take a month's worth of vacation and go and see Alaska. Even if I never get to Germany/Austria/Poland or never get to see the castles of England, Ireland and Scotland, I'll be happy if I get to see the Rockies and Alaska.
One thing I recommend to people to go and do is to go find a place that gives glider rides and take a ride. It's noisy because of wind but there is no engine noise, there are no other gadgets to get in the way. Just you, the pilot and the birds in the sky. It's one of the most memorable things I have ever done and totally nothing like being in a powered airplane.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

DO IT. Spent a month up there many years ago. There are not words to describe the beauty of that state. -

Perhaps you didn't go to the right places in Colorado? These are from my Wife's home townThere is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin
