Is this possible?

I have have a separate 2 channel stereo and HT reciever setup sharing one set of speakers. I am tired of swapping speaker cables depending on whether I want to watch a movie or listen to 2 channel stereo and do not want to use the Niles DPS-1 amp selector. So I was thinking, can I connect the multi-channel front speaker outputs from my DVD player to the CD input on my two channel stero pre-amp and send the remaining multi-channel outputs to my HT receiver? I know I would have to control volumes separately if I did this. I guess what I'm asking is are the mutli-channel outputs on a DVD player line level signals or are they something else?

If your HT receiver has pre-outs, you can just run the front main pre-out to a spare input on your 2 ch. amplifier. Then when you want to use the HT, switch the amplifier to the input that has the front main pre-out connected to it, and set the volume accordingly.

Unfortunately, I don't have the pre-outs on the receiver. That's why I was wondering if the multi-channel outputs from the DVD player could be used instead.

Volume balancing will be a pain, but your AVR's "Tape Out" should be 2 ch.
