alternators are expensive...doubt you could get one for that cheap other than ebay...but even then
you have to look out for these "high output" alternators that do "200 amps" or whatever...
yes they do 200 amps but at like 5krpms and do the same or less than the stock alt. at normal rpms
i think your best bet is take your current alt.. to an alt. shop and get it rewound

i agree with cody on getting it rewound... check the yellow pages and call around... your local car audio shops should know who in your area does it too...

btw are you ever going to register or what?

you're not going to get a H.O. alt for that cheap... if you do decide to spluge on a new alt instead of getting the stock one rewound, make sure you look at amperage/rpm numbers... like cody said, a lot of these units only do their max amperage at some crazy rpm... you want low rpms, 3k or less...

Back to the original question, Ive heard that rewinding an alternator may not be all that great because even tho its now capable of putting out more amperage, not much more will be delivered to the charging system because of a relay thingy or something that wont let much passed the OEM amperage get thru.

I know jack about alternators so I dont know, but Ive heard this from time to time over the years.

well i did call you a troll but i was just joking with you:p

as far as the amperage relays, most good shops will replace that as well with one that will allow the full amount, just check with the shop and make sure

you should be fine with a single 4 ga or 2ga if you want to play it safe, you won't need 1/0 ga.... 4 and 2 are less expensive and should get the job done...
