Ok. we all get nasty spam email in our mailboxes. how do you all fight spam? or at least cut it down some.

I use my Comcast email account the most... every single day. IS there a third party software that integrates with Outlook Express that will help cut out the spam in my email?

thx

    Give this a read:

    Filtering Email with Outlook Express

If Comcast offers web-based email (you can access your email via a browser instead of a client like OE), you may be able to set filters to block spam there as well.

As tedious as it is, I spent some time awhile back clicking the unsubsribe link in a ton of spam - most of it generated by the same *ssholes in Las Vegas ("Get a free HDTV", "Get a free PC", etc.) They did remove me from their garbage runs after about two weeks.

    Good luck.

so i guess it is not true that clicking on the "unsubscribe" on spam just subscribes you to more spam? i hate deleting it every day but clicking *anything* on the spam in my inbox makes me feel uncomfortable. maybe i'm just paranoid.

I currently have 71 filters on my OUtloook express email program.. but some of it still gets thru.

I'm with PhantomOG... i tried the unsubscribe thing too. and i think it helped.. but as we all know.. spammers change one word here or there and then the filters no longer work.

Yes i can access my Comcast email via the web... and sometimes I have to. About once a month.. i'll get an email spam sent that keeps me from downloading my emails.. it in effect copies and will only allow be to download the emails that are currently in my in box. Every time I try to download my email from the server.. this one email spam will duplicate and continue to duplicate the emails... it's some kind of virus or trojan email.

Untill i go in and manually delete this email on the web.. i can't access my Comcast email thru Outlook.

Try looking into Spam Assasin. I don't have any links but a search engine search should produce copious results.

Most of the places I deal with use Spam Assasin on thier email servers. Works pretty damn good.

I like Mailwasher. It scans your emails on the server, showing you the headers from each one. Then you can just click off the ones you don't want, and if you blacklist them, it will kick off a reply email back saying your address is undeliverable. It saves having to download all the crap in the first place. For forced dial-up people like myself, it saves tons of download time for emails that will just be deleted.

Once you've selected the ones you want/ don't want, it emails the bounces, deletes the ones you've checked right off the server, then opens your default email client automatically to finish downloading selected emails. You need your account info so it can login to check (like POP settings, in Outlook Express under Tools --> Accounts --> Mail tab --> Properties.)
