CS400i question

Hey, about a week ago my roommates & I had a party at my house & I like a idiot said they could use my speakers for the DJ booth. So after about 6+ hours of loud music my tweeters pretty much fried on my CS400i & RT55i's. But here is my question, do both of the drivers in the 400i see the same frequency's? or are they kinda split up? The reason why I ask is my center channel just doesnt sound right anymore, the tweeter still works but is clearly damnaged, but more sound seems to be comming out of the left driver than the right(while looking at the speaker). I took the driver out & inspected it & didnt notice anything unusual, & would assume if the voicecoil was damnaged it just wouldnt play at all. Any help would be great before I whipout the credit card & buy something that isnt broke.

They are fried, dude. When you abuse them, they die. Replace everything and don't EVER do it again...

The big drivers get slightly different frequency ranges. You may have fried your crossovers as well. Don't know how much this is gonna cost you to repair them. Time to hand the bill to your friends(at least a partial one). More than likely the amp was clipping the signal into your speakers, which fried the tweeters. I feel for ya. Had the same thing happen to me years ago with my old set of Infinity Qb speakers. The Emit tweeters had blown up, with the ribbon lifted right off of the mylar. $50.00 each, and that was back in 1980!

I had a similar thing happen to one of my RT55i's just last week and am trying to decide if I will fix it. I spoke to Polk customer service and everything (crossover, tweeter, drivers) will cost over $225.00. The speaker only cost $199.00, so I'm not sure what to do.

    Good luck.

Woo!, nevermind guys I just talked with polk & they reminded me that I still am under a waranty from circuit city. I didnt even think about that since I got them open box 2 years ago. That takes a big load off though since it would have been atleast $300 to get them back to normal. As far as the amp clipping, I kinda knew that might happen since I have a somewhat lower power receiver(HK 230) & had 5 channels playing music. But its hard to say dont turn it up loud when you have 160 college kids at the house for a party, sucks being the party pooper.

    2 things.....

    1. HOUSE PARTIES DO NOT REQUIRE CENTER CHANNELS

    2. Charge 3-5 bucks a head for something that large. Inevitably, you're going to have damage to SOMEthing with that many people in "someone elses house"
    comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Yea we charged $5 & $10, made $1200 total & still only made a $90 profit. But anyways the lady I talked to at polk was awesome. She said to send them back & they would take care of them. She said "We dont punish you for listening to your speakers loud", awesome customer service!

So, now you can use the $90.00 to ship the speakers back! Luckily for us Polksters, Polk is NOT an insurance company.

Yea, just sucks now that I wont have them for another 2 weeks & I was looking forward to buying the new Star Wars Trilogy with upgraded sound. Oh well, I waited years for this I guess I can wait another week. (or more, gotta break them in again I supose).
