What if.....

Has anyone ever contemplated/experimented with this:

Set all speakers to large. Run 5-6 channels using a pretty dynamic range speaker like the cs400. Then use the channel pre-outs on your amp to wire 5-6 subwoofers (of choice) and place them uniquely next to their respective channels. Complete this with bi-wiring/amping each channel, and you could possibly have a sound so 'live' it'd be amazing. Probably take a lot of calibration....costly too!

The other option would be to use lengths of wire to 'pass through' each sub and out to the speaker.

...course I'd need more disposable income.
and of course I'd have to get rid of all the furniture just taking up space.
    ...then my girlfriend would probably...
and I'd have to board up the windows to keep the neighbors from shooting at me.

but I'm sure it would sound sweet.

I don't even have 1 CS400, much less 6. I have always wondered the possibilities of using an array of centers, much less a dedicated sub for each. Centers speakers are supposed to sound so much better, why not? Especially the CS400(i).

What would the imaging and soundstage of a pair of CS400s be like? I presume you would put them on end.

    Used SRT?

the potential for the improved imaging using the cs400i's all the way around was one of my main thoughts on trying it. i have the cs400i for my center, and the thing is amazing (it's the reason i went with polk over all the competition for HT). the driver aligment is the same as the newer LSi series (although the LSi's have many more improvement's over the cs400i), and placed on their side, opposite for each L/R front, (tweeter's in), i would imagine would offer an improved soundstage and greater imaging than anything else in the rt lineup.

as for the SRT, only in my dreams...:D

The CS1000s have built in subs. I don't know how low they go, but....

The 1000s would probably be pretty difficult to place all around because of their size. I would do the seperate input sub rather than the included sub, for more seperation of frequencies. Plus, is the 1000 true bi-amp/wireable?

I have to say, I agree with juice, the 400 is one of the best speakers I've ever heard under $1000. And even over that, there's not much sonic difference. I wouldn't place them on their side though, I'd lay them flat, either on stands or possibly mount them on wall, like a theater.

Think about it....the sub wouldn't even have to be the 'biggest' possible one....maybe a psw350 at each channel... right now that's roughly 260 for the center, 240 for the sub...100 shipping/tax and wires... complete set up in the $2500-3000 range!

    That's affordable, right! ;)

I don't use centers all around but all my speakers are driven by a Adcom's through the pre-outs of a Denon 3801. The fronts are M12 ser. 2s with a P.E. sub for each and the sides and rears share a Velodyne ULD 18. The seperate amps are the biggest improvement I have made to the system. IMO the subs make the biggest difference when playing music in 7 channel, which ever format.
I already had the amps and speakers from the ProLogic days. I have a nice collection of monitor series 2 IMO.
