AC Line Conditioners

How important would an AC line conditioner be in my system. I am mostly concerned w/ the audio performance (my TV isn't great anyway). I have the Denon 4800 and RM7500s. I noticed the other day when playing a DAT tape in 5ch stereo at high volumes my living room lights dim when the bass hits. Obviously, the 4800 is drawing a considerable amount of current, but the fact that the lights dim a bit makes me wonder if it is really getting all of the current it needs. Any recommendations on line conditioners if that would in fact imporve my situation?

Well, I do live in a house that was built in the 50s. The interior has been redone, but I doubt the wiring was completely revisited. The dim isn't significant (it isn't like the lights are going out), but it is noticeable.

If you are dimming lights, you are drawing on the line, conditioning won't help. How far from the breaker is your outlet? What I'm going at here, is running a new, dedicated 20amp line a possibility?

When I first power on my 250wpc amp, the lights dim momentarily. I have a 100Amp service to my house. Its probably just the initial recharge of the capacitors - my guess.

They won't give you more power, which may be the need here, but they will help on reducing electrical noise.
And they will definitely provide needed surge protection, (provided your outlets are grounded).
They also give you a decent multi-outlet location for connecting all of you toys.

I'm with RuSsMaN! I don't have megapower, but with 13(hopefully 15 by the the end of the day)components hooked up. I have my system divided between 2 circuits. Ahh(WTF), the upstairs tenant won't notice the extra draw on their line. I hope to end this soon with a dedicated box. I would think your lights and system are on the same circuit and are not getting enough juice. While I too do not yet have a line conditioner, I don't think this is your problem.Make it Funky!

Hey, is your 2500 emmits slight buzzing when plugged in? I have a HTS 5000 and it buzzes all the time, not very loud but getting annoying.

The best budget power conditioner has to be the Belkin ISOLATOR. It's an eight outlet, metal chassis with rounded ends, 3000 joule monster! It's extremely heavy duty and is marketed as a product for your workstation or server. It can be found at Best Buy and CompUSA for around $60-$80. It's all black and comes in a large box. A much better buy than Monster's offering in that price range.
If you want something pricier, Monster's expensive line is fantastic as well! The 5000 is great and the new 5500 or so is even better. Just be prepared for the light weight feeling of your wallet after you pay!
