Pre-proc / Amp Popping

Hey all, I'm somewhat new to the pre. proc / power amp setup but I've began using a 2ch. pro. audio power amp for my Lsi15's just because I can't afford your typical home theatre power amp and I already had my Crest Audio Vs650. I always leave on the power amp just because it has no auto on/off functionality and no remote so it's annoying to get up and turn on the amp each and every time. I'm currently using my AVR for the pre. proc. piece in my setup and occasionally when I turn on the AVR it creates that dreaded POP or sometimes a high-pitch squeall.
Is this something that should be expected and I should just buck up and turn off/on the amp each time after powering on the AVR?
Or do you think this is a problem with my AVR and I should have it checked out? My AVR is an Onkyo TX-DS797.
Thanks!
