What a difference

Wow, I just made a dual change to my mains. First, using a seperate amp - and second, going from Monster XP to Frank's Shotgun Bi-Wire IC's.
Previously I had been ok listening to CD's burned from MP3's, somtimes even as low as 128k files, and they sounded surprisingly decent. Though, I could usually tell the difference between 128k and 192k files.
With the new cables and amp there is so much detail to the music that MP3's now sound riddled with holes, while lossless music now has a much more sophisticated sound. I've definitely never heard such a difference between MP3's and CD's before... quite amazing, and now I understand why people spend so much money on SACD.
This is all still using RTi6's as well, boy I can't wait to see what some high res music does on LSi7. So exciting getting into the 2nd level of madness with this hobby - where things actually start sounding different (better!) than anything before.

Sounds like you are enjoting your changes. I know for a fact more power and better cable will make a difference. 45watts versus 100watts and Rat Shack versus Monster Cables made me enjoy this hobby even more. Now where is that money tree?
........Enjoy.....:DDenon #2900, Denon stereo receiver, Conrad Johnson Sonographe 120 amp, Blue Jeans cables, and Klipsch RF-7's -
Iomic - Nice to hear another person experiencing some positive results with SC or just upgraded interconnects in general, enjoy! Frank and his crew make some really outstanding cables.
You know you have officially been blacklisted as a cable heretic now right?
You may or may not believe in burn-in, but IMO they get a little smoother over time, and that's a good thing.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Another lost to the dark side...
If you're up for a little experimenting, undo your two changes one at a time until back on your original set-up. Then add back one at a time. See if you can identify the relative improvement each gives.
I do find your MP3/ CD SQ gap growth an interesting means of detecting the improvement in your system. Haven't seen that here before to the best of my recollection (which is somedays better than others).
In any case, enjoy...More later,
Tour...

Hmmm....a Pioneer DV-414??
Wait til you use a higher quality D/A converter with the Pioneer; many have reported that the Pioneer is excellent when used as a transport.
