Wish to minimize speaker wires

Hope some one can help me with this issue. I have the RM6700 sat w/ the PSW10. The setup works with the recommended hookup. Hooking the front left & right channel from my Onkyo TXSR-601 to the sub then going from the sub to the front left/right speakers. On the receiver the sub = no, front = large. This setup works except for the unattractive speaker wires. I wish to use the sub out on the receiver to eliminate some of the wires. Would this work with this sub or will I have to step up to the psw303 with the LFE input?

    Welcome to CP,

Yes, your psw10 will work with the sub output from the receiver. Just connect the LFE output to the line level input on the sub. I think most people here use the LFE output. Just set the crossover on the sub up all the way and all speakers to small.

    Thanks for replying,
I did what you suggested, connecting the receiver's sub out to the left line in on the back of the subwoofer, changed all speakers to small, turned the low pass filter nob on the back of the sub all the way up. And no sound is coming out of the sub, other speakers work.

I unhooked all inputs from the subwoofer. Connected a CD player's line outputs to the line inputs on the subwoofer and played the CD. I do get low freq sound from it so it seemed the line input on the sub is functioning.

Next I hooked the subwoofer cable back in and did a speaker calibration procedure on the receiver where I attempted to equalized the volume from all speakers from a pink noise generated by the receiver. When I get to the subwoofer, I'm getting a low rubbling noise from it, so it appears that the sub output on the receiver is working.

I'm I missing something here? Do I need a Y cable to connect to the L/R line input of the sub? Any help is appreciated. I'm a little fustrated now having to deal with a doa receiver, waiting another week for a replacement. And there is still the heat issue that I'll be working on next. Sorry I'm venting.

I feel really stupid now. I just switched on one of the dsp modes and the bass is coming out of the sub now. I was using the tuner and had it on direct mode which for some reason the sub does not produced any bass. But it did yesterday with the Polk's way. Anyway thanks for helping. I had the sub packed in the box and was going to return/exchanged for something else.

On the receiver the sub = no

You did turn the sub output on right? Just checking.

Yes I did turned on the sub on the receiver. I looked at the manual and it states that in direct mode minimal processing are done on the signal & no signal at the subwoofer output jack. So that explains it. It worked before because the sub was getting its signal from the front wires.
