Im back trying to burn DVD back-ups again
ive pretty much figured out, if i want to do this--im going to have to buy some software
i was told if you use DVD shrink and have Nero, you just click once and wait for it to burn
is that true?
nadams also mentioned DVD-X-Copy
i found this
is it worth the price you pay there?
or is DVD shrink just as good for free?
also, is there a certain Nero version i should be looking for?
if it matters, the DVD burner only burns DVD+R
thanks
-Cody

DVD shrink now gets the thumbs-up from me. DVDXCopy was ruled to be illegal and you should no longer be able to buy it. DVD Shrink is free, and yes, if you have Nero, it integrates right in.

My one suggestion with DVD shrink is to take as much of the stuff that you don't need out, so that the compression will be less. The less compression, the better the video and sound quality. (IE- remove second language tracks, or audio tracks that you don't need)

*shrugs* beats me... You can read about it on www.321studios.com

I don't know that it was actually ruled illegal... I think they just gave up because they ran out of money to fight the charges.

Because some are commercially sold, and burning dvd movies is illegal, (ie: copyrighted) so they get banned... the rest are software developers who distibute it free and can't be governed becuase they arent chargeing, plus they cant find them or what not... Basically, if you make the software and sell it to the public you have to follow the rules.. If your making software in your house and giving it away... whos gonna ban ya... Nero will not burn copy right dvd's....

I had a problem with the newest version of nero and dvdshrink 3.2. I went back to Nero 6.0.0.9 and had no problem. As was said earlier, I find it best to keep the compression above 70 percent. DVDshrink decrypts then burns. Had no issue with any dvd using the 2

You don't need to compress anything with DVD shrink. First click on re-author and drag the main movie to DVD structure. Then click on compression and if it still shows less than 100%, remove the unnecessary soundtracks and only leave 5.1 DTS or DD. If that still doesn't do the trick, click on the icon with two opposite arrows, that will allow you to specify which chapters to copy. This will allow you to divide the movie into two discs, f.e. chapters 1-10 into disc 1 and 11-20 to disc 2.

BTW, burning with DVD Shrink is slow and also a memory hog. Put the movie into an image and burn the image with Nero.
