I BOUGHT A RF 551S POWER AMP FOR MY MM12 AND WAS WONDERING IF THE EXTRA 50 WATTS RMS PUMPING OUT OF MY AMP MAY BE ENDANGERING THE SUB. I'VE HEARD THAT MORE POWER IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN LESS POWER, BUT IN MY CASE IS IT HAZARDOUS TO THE SUB? AND IF POSSIBLE COULD I CUT DOWN ON THE EXTRA WATTAGE BY CHOICE OF WIRING?

I HAVE BOTH OF MY SUBS RUNNING OFF OF 2 550S'--NO THE EXTRA POWER SHOULD NOT HURT YOUR SUBS--IT WOULD NOT BE A BAD IDEA TO KEEP THE GAIN DOWN A LITTLE THOUGH

BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT CODY HAS BLOWN A HALF DOZEN SUBS BY RUNNING AN EXTRA 50 WATTS TO EACH OF THEM. PLUS THERE ARE ABOUT 50 DIFFERENT POSTS ON HERE CONCERNING MOMO SUBS THAT KEEP ASSUMING ROOM TEMPERATURE WITH VERY LITTLE OVER THEIR MAX RATING.

    WHY ARE WE YELLING?

Actually if you listen to rap or hip hop then it may be ok. Me and Cody listen primarily to metal and hard rock which has constant heavy kickdrums, bass lines and mid bass and is really hard on amps and subs cause it doesnt let up much and amps tend to run a lot hotter. Rap has very hard hitting bass lines but they also have pretty long pauses in between and gives the amp and sub a chance to catch its breath.

True, but usually hip hop only has that one bass note that is usually BOOOOOOOOOM........BOOOOOOOOOOOM.......BOOOOOOOOOOM.

Heavy metal is hitting all over the frequency range and it doesnt let up. The kick drum is pounding thru the entire song, the bass guitar is playing as fast as the lead guitar and the guitar itself has a good bit of midbass hittin' going on.

I loathe rap but I dont like some techno and my spunky little Crossfire VR302 is way hotter after a good Slayer album than a Paul Oakenfold.

Im assuming that whats hardest on the sub amp will also be hardest on the sub itself. ;)

huh... i'm only running the mm6's off a 300.2, but it's usually at maximum performance (i drive a convertible... can we say background noise??) and my amp never gets hot... i take 3 hour drives on a regular basis, and it's always cool to the touch...

My Crossfires are usually only slightly warm. I play mine pretty stout for extended periods and they stay cooler than my previous Alpines. However Ive got mine set up to where they get plenty of cooling.
