Anyone have a Pioneer VSX-D814?

I just bought one and for some reason it flashes "overload" during intense movies and shuts off. My Polk sub is hooked thru the speaker wire recommended by Polk). Any suggestions? I'm at the point where the only station i can watch without shutting off is GSN.

Need more info! What speakers are you using? How many speakers, not including the sub? Any chance that you are listening at high volume levels and forcing the receiver into the "Protect" mode? Do you have a minimum of 8" clearance above the receiver? How about clearance on the sides? What kind of rack/cabinet is it in(Glass doors and/or sealed back panel)?

I have the Polk RM7200 with the 550 sub (2 fronts, 2 surrounds, center, sub). I have the sub hooked up like Polk recommends with speaker wire. The receiver has about 9ft of clearance above. The sub is on the bottom of a rack with about an inch from each side, it's open on front (no door) and mostly open on the back. The receiver is on top of rack with the lower sides close to the rack side. I listen at relatively low volume. My fronts are set to large, my center and surrounds set to small, and my sub to off, just like Polk recommends. I'm watching the ballgame right now and everything is fine, but if i switch it to let's say HBO and watch a movie during certain intense scenes the receiver will click then say "overload" then shut off. The volume on my sub is low to mid, the crossover set to 200 (which Polk recommends). I could try and move the sub or buy a sub cable and hook up to LFE and sub preout. I have to do something fast, my receiver is basically useless since the reason i bought it was for movies.

Understood. Sounds like plenty of clearance all the way around. You might want to take the receiver back to store you got it from and connect it to a "known good" surround sound speaker system. If the same thing happens then you know that there is a problem with the receiver. If the problem cannot be duplicated, then it may have something to do with the speakers.
Does that make any sense or am I just rambling?:( -
Sort of, LOL. It has to be the sub because it only shuts off during an intense bass scene or moment. I'm wondering if the receiver is having problems with my sub connection which is of course not the normal way. I have an unfiltered LFE jack on my sub and a sub preout jack on my receiver, i'll try that hookup. I'll then have to set my fronts to small and sub on. What's frustrating is the sound is awesome, the Polks are doing well and my receiver i like very much. I did e-mail Pioneer and waiting for a response. What's funny is i slightly lowered the sub volume and changed my phase switch from "0" to "180" as i'm watching "Finding Nemo" and so far so good, LOL. Thanks for your responses.

Your welcome. Sometimes you just gotta get behind the gear rack and fiddle with the wires alittle. It's amazing what you can accomplish.:)

I have that receiver hooked up to my shiny new RMS6750 system - I have hooked up the sub to the preout and all my speakers are of course set to small with the 200 setting for the sub and it really does well! Course my room is only 14x16... I like it all!:)
