Unless the interconnect has "arrows" indicating directionality, don't worry about it. I am not 100% sold on the directional idea anyways, but I don't really care, it is what it is.

The Z series is a nice cable, start burning them in, 50 hours is an atypical figure for this issue.

The Monster Z2 is a good wire but there are better wires for less money. Go to cobaltcable.com or accessories4less.com

If you want to learn about cables go to www.audioholics.com they have actually done comparison tests on many cables.

Generally "directional" cables only means that the shield is grounded at one end only, not both. This ground connection should be on the source side, not the pre/receiver side. This keeps the ground at the pre/receiver side free of any "junk" the shield picked up.

I always thought that was BS too until I found out our hardware guys do that themselves with cables in our systems.

Better is subjective, only you can decide that issue. The aforementioned link is just another opinion, nothing carved in stone.

Every directional cable that I've used or seen states the arrow should point away from the source.

If you check the link at www.audioholics.com you will see that the cables were tested using scientific methods not just "opinion". BTW: The Monster Cable that was tested did pretty well. For the record my #1 System is wired 100% with Monster Cable, my #2 has Monster Cable on the rear speakers

and to clarify my first reply I should have said "The Monster Z2 is a good wire but there are other high quality wires for less money"

I did read the article but it's still a subjective scientific result. Another group of individuals could test the same cables and come up with different results.

As an aside, go to MIT's website, and if you take the rhetoric on that website to be true....which is of course a "scientific" conclusion by MIT, than you wouldn't buy anything but MIT cables at that point....it's just an opinion, and it always will be, sorry man.

    www.mitcables.com

For the "record" and to "clarify"....I own NO Monster Cable anymore, because I "scientifically" found that another "high quality, less expensive" brand was "better". Been there....done that.

Dbourn - I am not attacking you, unfortunately tone doesn't come across in type. I am simply stating that it's all **** until it's in your home and in your gear. The fact that you posted information period is cool, and will help everyone.

I dont agree that .50 cent a foot gama wire is equal to monster Z2. I know that beacuse I have tested many different types of speaker wire/cables. Z2 wire has deeper / tighter bass on my system than cheeper wires. Look a the makeup of the Z2, consists of about 6 thick wires & fine twisted strands around a mag flux tube. The thick wires are for the lows & the fine is for the mids & highs. I have even added 1 run of 10awg 24 strands & one run of 10 awg 16 strands to my Z2 & that brought out the mids even more & the lows dug deeper. The cheeper wire has usually fine strands all of the same diameter, which usually donst give you as much information as better cable. My small 2ch system in the store uses double runs of Z1 to each speaker. Single Z1 sounded good but double was noticable better!!! My main system, which we use for demos is using Sigma Retro speaker cable. Yes there is a noticable improvement over the Z2 but remember they cost over $1000 more! The next cable I will use on the main system is M2.4 cables. I want to see if the biwire will be as good or close to the sigma's! Oh also the posts I have been reading seems most feel the Z series isnt as good as the M series. The Z4 speaker cable is the exact same cable as the M2.2, The Z2 & Z2 biwire cable is the same cable as the M1.2 & M1.4 biwire. They are the same product but marketed differently. Also the only sell is a cosmetic difference. Monsters product lines cross & products are packaged diffrent & may look cosmeticly different but infact they are the same product. Example M2.2 is the same cable as the Z4 but the Z4 costs about $100 less. Why pay more for the same product? How do I know? Im a Authorized Monster Dealer & have tried many different cables on my systems & know what the changes are. I know for a fact my LSi15 sound very very thin with monster xp speaker wire! Same system same speakers with Z2 wire 100% improvement!
