I would put $10 down saying that the audio signal is not completely digital up until the signal is sent to the speakers. I'm betting its a class D amp and that the input to the amp is analog, or that a digital signal is converted to analog before being amplified.

From the article..."Called Cinema Vision, the system uses JBL's Digital Link technology, which maintains 100 percent digital audio and video signals throughout the system. This improves sound and video performance. Because all the paths are digital, HDTV broadcasts and digital audio signals, such as those from the DVD changer, remain unfiltered until they're output from the speaker system."

Yeah EFFIN' right!! Bknauss, you are 100% on the money there bro. I'd bet $100 that your $10 bet is a winner.

The article says, "until they're output from the speaker system." That to me implies some as of yet undiscovered digital output system from the (possibly) digital amplifier.

I don't read Popular Mechanics magazine, but you'd think they'd have gotten that info correct. That to me is somebody writing an article who doesn't know crap about the subject. He probably just recited product literature, and got it wrong. Shame on that magazine.

and you're going to base all of JBL's equipment on your one low end setup? What about their Synthesis line? Their TiK series? Just checking... ;) That's like judging Onkyo's new $4300 receiver by listening to their HTIB.

No, I'm not going to judge their entire line. They do put out some good products, to be sure.

I have, however, listened to alot of their "mass consumer" targeted lines. In that genre, I stand by the first impression.
