I have been told that when a DVD player is connected vis S-video THROUGH the receiver, the image flutters slightly because Macrovision kicks in.

Any confirmation on this one and what can be done (beside direct connect which is not an option)

Thanks.

Even direct connection has this issue. There are people out there on the internet who make a little box which removes the macrovision problem. They make it not to remove the macrovision for the intended purpose of recording but to allow reproduction of the video image on projectors and the like. Yea right... I've heard that even best buys sells one but I have not looked for one. If you cannot find one let me know via pm. It is my understanding they sell for $50 to $75.

What a mess, and by adding a box you loose what generation of signal off course... is there a digital way to remove macro at the DVD decoding level then ?

I have a Panasonic DVD player, connecting to a Denon 3803 w/S-video. No problem w/image fluttering. I also have an older and cheapie Apex DVD player, which firmware can be downloaded to defeat the macrovision feature.

Some dvd players have hacks for turning off region coding and macrovision. The ability to turn off macrovision seems to be mostly found in the low end players though (e.g. apparently the philips 642 comes with analog macrovision off. Plays divx too!).

Don't know if this is an option for you or not.
