You will all have to forgive me for I have had a few cocktails! I have been discussing the Polk Audio forum with my other half. As most of you know I have just acquired my second set of SRT's. After getting the first set and letting my other half listen to them. (keep in mind it took a year of convincing to get them) It only took two weeks to get the approval for a second set! Anyway as I sat in the living room listing to Mannheim Steamroller. I am absolutly amazed with the sound stage. I will have to join the SDA bandwagon. WHY DID POLK EVER GIVE THIS UP!!!!!!!. On that note... All the research in I have done in the forum archives on the SRT's they always come up as the black sheep of the Polk Audio SDA line up. I will have to admit I have not had a chance to hear any other SDA product 1.2's, SRS or what have you. If there is anyone in the New England area who would be willing to give me a demo I would be thrilled. If they are any better then the SRT's I will be amazed. So on to my question: With the exception of PolkWannabe why does no one rave about these speakers. Is it the fact you have never heard them? You have had no experience with them? Or is it just **** Envy???

There are other SRT'ers who post from time to time ...

The self designated SDA "purists" will say that the SDA effect is not true SDA but instead is of similar design to Carver Sonic Holography ...

But as several other people have stated on several other topics ... Those that don't know, don't know they don't know ...

So be it ... It keeps the competition down and thus the prices as well ... Used prices on 1.2 TL's approach 75% of original MSRP ... If the SRT's commanded the same relative price on the used market it's not likely I would have ever bought a set, but imho after living with them for awhile they would still be worth every penny. At the prices they usually do go for they're a bargain.

I've listened to the SRT's, 1.2TL's, 2.3TL's, 1C's, 2B's and a slew of other Polk speakers. For my money and for music I'll take the the big SDA's. For HT, I don't think you can beat the SRT's.

I have heard them, and it's an excellent loudspeaker. They are not common, due to the fact they did not sell as many as the other SDA lines. Many people were not willing to drop high coin in them, just like the Polk Audio naysayers of today. It was a ultra-high end idea at that time...and Polk Audio, at that time, was still not accepted in the inner circle of hard-on's.

It's a shame that the mass audience equates Polk to common folk without knowing or hearing some history. Alas that's how it goes.

The fanatics don't drive companies, the mass consumer does....and the average consumer sucks. I mean that tongue in cheek, but really the average consumer is a weekend advertisment buyer.

1.2TL vs SRT? Trix are for kids, it's a toss up. It's not really a bar comparison. They are different animals.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The community of Polker's for the most part on this forum simply do not own these expensive and power hungry beast that are all rare and not in mint condition. Most are the new generation apartment dwellers buying the "Wal-Mart" marketed Polks. Hope that did not sound too bad.
I would love to own a pair of 1.2's but find me a new pair at a great price within driving distance and a monkey will fly out of my A$$...... They would almost look normal next to my 12 foot screen.;)
Also I am not a 2 channel guy - but I would not pass up a huge $15,000 reference Polk rig. ;)

    Two comments ...

    1. Notice how far out from the screen they're placed. The manual states and I've verified for myself that this is mucho important. I wonder if this guy knew what he was missing http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5717743166&indexURL=1&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

    2. SRT's on a 200 wpc amplifier is close to being an insult.

I too haven't heard the 'SDAs' so cant comment on what sounds better, but I can say that when we had SRTs front and rear, WOW, words just cannot express how amazing it was. For movies they are awesome, the bass is so tight and just hit you so hard, music, well I loved them, in two channel they are the best I have heard. They do take some tweaking to get just right but once there, heaven..

    I miss them so.......

    Yeah,
The Polk Audio HQ demo we had folks was only like the bread of the cake, and stale bread at that....

LOTS of potential there, I thought.

    Unpowered, in a deprived room....

If the sda's are better than the srt's musically then they must really be something. I dont even think they were even sent to our shores:mad: I have however heard the srt's (cheers 05), and have never heard anything that even comes close, and doubt i ever will. I have a couple of questions that hopefully someone can answer for me
1 How many pairs of srt's were made
2 Why did polk totally/unequivocally drop a technology that was so good

    Anyone......

SDA's were all over our shores as Polk is an American speaker manufacturer. NZ probably wasn't realized as a viable market until later. There is a ton of gear that never makes it to other places, it's simply a marketing issue. The crazy people don't drive a company, the masses do.

    Rock on Kiwi! :)

    1) How many pairs? Confidential. Let's presume the number is in the thousands bracket.

    2) Demand.
