Boston!!

so what's to do in Boston?!?!? looks like I'll be spending a few days there on a business trip soon. always wanted to visit but never did.

can any locals name some must-see and must-do things to do in Boston? I'll probably be there for 3 or 4 days and have the nights and maybe 1 full day to be a "tourist". Seems like I'll be there at a good time of the year :)

    My brother attends Harvard Business School where he's in the process of getting his MBA. I went to visit him in May and had a great time. If you like old ships, then check out Old Ironsides as Pixiedave suggested. If you have time, go on a 'Duck Tour.' These tours bring you through downtown Boston and Beacon Hill, and you even take a trip into the river. The tours take place on WWII amphibeous landing craft that both drive on land and cruise on the water. We did it and it was pretty cool. Beacon Hill is a really nice area, with 300 year old homes and cobblestone streets. You can also go to the Old North Church where Paul Revere hung the lantern in the steeple to let everyone know that the British were coming.

    If you like seafood, you have to go to Legal Seafood. There is one in Park Plaza, one in the Copley Mall & another in the Prudential Mall. It's a little on the pricey side but you won't get it any fresher. The Duck tour will give you a good little history lesson and you get to see some of the historic sites.

    Just for the hell of it, check out the Bull and Finch Pub. It's the outside view of Sam's bar Cheers from the TV show.

    It's pretty neat and near the Boston Common and gardens, if I remember correctly, which are also a must see!

    I would definitely recommend a trip on the T to Harvard Square in Cambridge and a walk around. the Science Museum is pretty good, as is the Museum of Art. A stroll through the Boston Common (America's first city park) is also well worthwhile. Boston proper is very small and it's probably easier to walk around than to take any other mode of transportation (especially on a nice fall day).

    If you have time, visit the Cape... and if you really have time, take the ferry from Hyannis to Martha's Vineyard and see the Red-Footed Falcon at the airport (first-ever North American sighting of this European/African bird). AFAIK it is still there munchin' on grasshoppers and mice.

    thanks again for the recommendations guys. the trip was a blast although i didn't get as much time away from work as i had hoped for.

    went on a "duck" tour, checked out Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, had an awesome dinner in the North End at a tiny Italian place, and got a pint of Guiness at Bell in Hand Tavern i think it was called. flying home out of Boston on 9/11 was a bit eerie though :p

    seems like a fun college town, maybe i'll go back and visit for longer someday.
