Center Channel speakers

How much of a bad idea is it to use one speaker from a stereo pair for a center channel?

I'm looking for a center channel that is closeyl voiced and similarly as sensitive as my KLH 17's and not haveing very good luck with it. So I was going to get another couple pairs of KLH 17's for a front and rear center channel speakers and a pair of rear surrounds. I guess one can't get any closer than that. But I was wondering what drawbacks there might be.

I have had no issue using a LSi7 as a center, there are a number of folks that prefer the LSi9 over the LSiC (or at least the crossover) as well. This shouldn't be an issue for you.

No drawbacks (other than shielding perhaps).

Matter of fact, you will actually be timber matched on all channels. The only way to acheive true timber matching, is for the speakers to be identical, period - not just from the same series.

    Go for it.

Well, I snagged another pair of KLH 17's and another pair of KLH 20's.

I'm kind of pissed too because the guy charged 30 bucks shipping for each pair. If he wanted 60 per pair, he should have put a reserve or a BIN on the auction.

Congrats. I've got a pair of KLH 23s that sound real nice. They sounded especially good on tubes. On SS they seem to be a little bass heavy.

$30 ain't bad for shipping. Especially if packed correctly. I just had a single Advent shipped to me for $25.

Well, the 17's and 20's are on thier way!

That leaves the 22's for the bedroom rig. That also means finding another amplifier. I'll have to get a cheap 2 channel with a sub out.

The SDA's will get thier own room.

Nice touch John. I told you two months ago that I had a nice pair of 17's here for cheap. I sold them YESTERDAY. Like paying for shipping? Like it a lot?

Got one pair left but the tweeters are silent and I haven't had time to find out why yet.

I'm sorry George, I totally forgot you said that! I needed two pairs though and honestly, even if I did remember, I wuld have thought that you unloaded them already. I apologize George, didn't mean to upset you, I honestly forgot. With all this hoopla with the wedding going on and getting a domicle of my own, I just flat out forgot.

One good thing though, He did give me a break on shipping. 15 dollars less than quoted. Which isn't so bad.
