Drivers were NOS, they are still breaking in. Bass is nothing short of phenominal for a 5" driver. Mid's and high's are 'live' and full of energy.

A full range driver, at it's finest.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    What is the caulk for?

Those are some incredibly red speakers, they look great though! I have yet to hear a full range speaker -- and would love to hear one!

    Awesome!

Fixing up the house, it's going up for sale this week - that's what the caulk is out for.

These would be something you should hear. It never ceases to amaze me how GOOD a FR driver can sound, in the proper enclosure. NOTHING in the signal path, no caps, no inductors, no resistors.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Yep, when we are remodeling a house we go through about 8 tubes of caulk, depending on the house and age....

I imagine they would sound good, maybe one day when I am going down your way I can listen to a pair of properly setup FR...

I couldn't agree more. I am going to build another pair of speakers with a full range driver in about a month when the FR driver comes out. You might want to check the driver out Russ. It is from www.creativesound.ca and designed and built by Adire Audio. It is also about 5" and has 12 mm p-p excursion while still going out to 20 kHz. With the XBL^2 motor it will be very low distortion aswell.

Looks like you've got some Altec horns, whats behind them?

I don't see the driver on the website, is it something still in the works? Whats up with the Elf speaker, that's an FR driver, no?

Altec 811B Horns with 802 Compression drivers, a pair of 416 15" drivers, Mirror Imaged Dahlquist DQ-10's, and Phase Tech 7T towers.

I haven't decided on the preamp yet, amps wise, these will run on a pair of modded William 5's. I can't friggin WAIT. Of course, I wish I could go OTL, and have NO caps WHATSOEVER, not even in the amps.

    Cheers,
    Russ

It is finished development and will be released in early Sept.

I built a pair of the Elf 1.0 speakers, it is a FR driver exclusive to CSS and made by Tang Band. It is very clear and detailed, with good imaging. The problem is Xmax is 1 mm so bass is lacking, so not quite FR.

Sounds neat, I'll believe it when I hear it though. 12mm is a lot of cone movement, I'd love to see what the midrange breakup looks like.

It's nice to see FR technology advancing. Don't get me wrong, I'm keeping my other speakers, but the FR's done right are just so natural sounding.

    Cheers,
    Russ

FWIW 12 mm is the total, 6 mm each way. I have seen some early freq resp graphs and the breakup was not bad at all but I havent seen the final prototype. The XBL^2 motor reduces inductance which allows the high end extension, with a phase plug. The flat BL will keep intermodulation distortion down.

I'm keeping my other speakers too, but the midrange clarity of the FR drivers is refreshing.

    Congrats on the new toys.

How did you happen to come across these? They look pretty nice. Usually people that build them don't want to let them go. If they are willing to part with them it's not usually at the kind of deal prices you usually come across.

How tall are they? Dimensions would be great if you happen to have a tape measure handy. This is probably the design I'd like to do and have a few sheets of acoustical ceiling tile at the ready. I would prefer a straight pipe (ala Voigt), but the folded design would probably work better in my current 2-ch room (angled ceilings).

Couple more shots of the pipes, along side a custom ported enclosure with a full-range Jordan driver.

Taken from my perspective of course, at the Sept 11th Lone Star Bottleheads meet.

nice gear, but those shoes are hurting my eyes:D

BTW here is that full range driver I mentioned before. It turns out I will not be getting them afterall, maybe next year. I'm building another project.
They are designed to compete against those Jordans. There aren't any specs yet, just thought some DIY full range fans might be interested.

I'm guessing the numero uno's are still the SRS 2's... yes?

Great timing on the DQ's BTW... Have been going through the roof lately on the bay. Latest, albeit mint with original stands, just went for $660.
