I just setup my newly purchased receiver and speakers. (Yamaha RXv2400, Rti10's, Csi5, and Fxi5's(4)) These are my first dipole/bipole speakers. What are some of your favorite scenes to test with? I am trying to find the best positioning of the Fxi's.

Thanks!

Hold on there Chief!! Demo's are cool and we've all got a list as long as your arm. But before you start cranking up the volume and impressing the neighbors do yourself a favor and calibrate your system with an SPL meter. You'll be glad yo did.

Now on to the demo stuff.
    U571 - Depth Charge Scene
Vertical Limit - Any of the Expolsion or Avelanche scenes
Lord of the Rings - Ring Drop scene
Star Wars Ep1 - Pod Race
Eagles Hell Freezes Over (DTS) concert DVD - Any song, they're all great!
    Finding Nemo - DARLA!!!!
Roy Orbison A Black & White Night - Again, pick your favorite classic hit!!
    9/11 - WE WILL NEVER FORGET!! (<---<<click)

To echo what you have already been told, before really impressing others with your system, make sure you have everything set up correctly. (Speaker distances, sound levels checked and equalized with SPL meter, Video levels set with AVAYA or Video Essentials test dvd) - Also while demoing your system invite your guest to sit in the "sweet spot" that everything is leveled to while you change DVD's and smile alot.... :D

    My list of scenes.

Toy Story 2 (Bass and surround) - Opening credits to fight between Buzz and Zurg

Toy Story 2 (Surround) - Crossing the road to get to Al's Toy Barn

The Matrix (Bass control and surround) - entry into the hotel to rescue morphius

The Matrix (bass) - Helecopter crash into buidling - low bass as copter goes over morphius and after the coper crashes into the building.

Gladiator (Bass and surround) - Unleash hell at the beginning of the movie

Lord of the rings - (Surround - Bass) - the entire time in Moria (specifically fight with the cave troll and fight with the balrog)

Star Wars Ep1 - Audio is just great throughout the film, unfortunately that is about all thats great about this one...

Most of the THX intros from pixar (surround) from Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, etc.

Fleetwood mac "The Dance" (Surround - Music) Just a great DVD

I am sure there are more, but those are the main ones to show off to co-workers in a lunch hour (or so).
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

One cool demo (and how I sold my last Polk HT) was using the X-box and MOH: Call of Duty. In the first mission, your leutenant is talking to you and you can scan the horizon. His voice stays exactly in reference to where your head is facing. It is really cool, especially since YOU are in control of the effect...

A definite "ditto" on any of "The Lord of the Ring" or "Martix" DVD's .
There are are some scenes in the "Return on the King" that definitely will test your bass limitations . (I think all the LOTR series dvds are DTS/ES/EX )

Don't forget "Behind Enemy Lines," scene #16 where he's running through the mine field. It's in DTS.

There are also some incredible scenes in Saving Private Ryan, both for surround effects and for bass. The opening scene and the last sceen where they have to protect the bridge are two that come to mind. And also the "raindrops" sceen is cool too.

Ditto U571, amazing! My favorite is the "shoot the radio tower and then dive like hell" sceen and then getting depth charged right after.

I haven't tried it yet but I hear that Master and Commander has some incredible canon sceens.

    Happy watchin!

Here's another one that will hit your Sub, your mains, your surround, everything!

It's very short, only lasting about 3 seconds, but it rotates through all the speakers in the process.

The Fifth Element. Preferably the SuperBit version with DTS selected.

Where Milla Jovavich is on the ledge, and jumps off. The Cop Car floors it and spins around, diving after here.

    It's pretty awsome :)

Best surround sound spatialization I've ever heard is in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Trailer, the screen goes black and you just hear people stomping around your room.

*gasp* No one mentioned the first scene of Saving Private Ryan (DTS)??

The DTS version of Stargate is pretty good in some scenes too.

I guess I'll also cast my vote for "ring drop". My roommate in college and I couldn't stop laughing after that scene... or rewinding it and playing that 3 second section over and over and over.

No one ever mentions the obvious :)

The scene at the end when the tanks start rolling into the town is pretty awsome for subs too.

Okay I have to put my two cents worth.

    In no particular order:

    1) Fast and Furious. (First Race scene when the race for the pink slip)

    2) Master and Commander. (First 10 minutes when the canons are going.. Insane)

    3) Bad Boys II ( The car chase scene.. Yes you know what scene I am talking about)

    4) Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. (Scene where the girls steals the Green Destiny) (Scene where the two girls sword fight towards the end in the building.)

    5) Star Wars Episode I (The infamous Pod Racing Scene)

    6) U571 (The infamous Depth charge scene)

    7) Chicken Run (Where the chicken gets stuck in the Chicken pot Pie machine. Great 360 surround.)

    8) Blade II (The sewer Scene)

    9) Kill Bill Vol. 1 ( The Oren Ishii showdown at the restaurant)

    10) Black Hawk Down (Any scene that has helicopters, guns, gernades. Hehehe

There is just a ton of great stuff it would be hard to list them all.

I can't ever get through that entire movie cause that one doofus always ruins the movie for me... the one that let's the **** go in one scene and sits back and watches the other American soldier die toward the end.

I always tell people that, and I am not sure anyone ever listens. It is one of the coolest effects I have heard as well. There is also a scene toward the end of the movie where she is in the basement and you hear stomping around on the 1st floor above her. It actually sounds like someone is above you. Very well done.
