Nice. I would make the base the same shape as the top (but bigger than the top).

Good to see a DIY come together!

Thanks guys. I left the bottoms square so if I change to a different speaker, I only have to make a new top. That and for stability purposes.

Very cool. Did you use veneer to cover the top & bottom?

I've never done any work with veneer. Is it hard to do? What, in general terms, is involved with applying the veneer? (that is, of course, if you did use veneer)

    VERY nice work!

I love DIY stuff. After speaker stands, a flexi rack, and a sub I'm getting the itch again!

a veneer is a very thin piece of real wood that you glue onto another surface. you can however stain a veneer...

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

They're made of two 3/4" pieces of birch plywood stacked on top of one another.I used iron on veneer for the sides, then sanded, stained and laquered

    First class job!

Did you or are you going to fill the tubes with sand or shot?

Nice looking stands Codey. I used sand to fill my DIY stands and it made them very stable and heavy, about 20 lbs each.

I just filled the tubes half way with kitty litter and what an improvement.
I bet these things would survive a bad earthquake, though I don't know how they'll fair against my Tempest when I get it :D

I was thinking about the adire alignment, but a passive radiator setup looks interesting. I don't really know much about the latter so I haven't made a firm decision yet.
I'm looking at the 360 watt amp from CSS, do you think that will be sufficient ?

Passive radiators are good for small subs to gain extension but if you have the space ported is cheaper. I have the EBS alignment with 270 W amp and that is lots of power. 360 W from CSS will be plenty in the Adire Alignment. The ported Adire designs are all big and efficient so you dont need a lot of power.

In my room, height was not a concern. I wanted to get the most extension and still keep a small footprint (2' X 2'). I would have been just as happy with the Adire Alignment but I really wanted to use those big 4" ports. Here is the current FR of my sub after I added the BFD.

Wow, maybe I should give that one a shot. I'm going to use it for movies 90% of the time, do you think the EBS would be a better choice?

Hard to say, the AA is probably better for HT because it is more efficient in the 30+ Hz range. You cant go wrong with either one. Try reading the descriptions of the different Qs on Adire's website and on www.diysubwoofers.org and see which you might prefer.

    Thanks for the complements guys.

Janmike, they don't need much wood, or even nice wood. You could use MDF and cover it with veneer or laminate for minimal expense.
