Hey guys, just getting into HT and have a quick question. I have an Onkyo TX-SR502 reciever and a HK htib speaker setup. 'm returning the HK speakers and wanted to buy the RTi8's or maybe even the RTi10's, do you think that the 502 will be ok to drive these speakers? TIA

I think you should have no probs.previous posts here seem to favor the 8's over the 10's !! save some cash

I'm running RTi6 speakers - but when I heard the 8s, well, I should have bought them! Better, fuller sound. As to your amp - I think you'll be OK - but when I've tested and compared, the speakers sound better when at moderate or above sound level. I get the feeling they like some "oomph" from the amp.
However - as the Polks are pretty efficient - you'll be OK. What kind of music do you listen to? If you're into loud Rock - you might want to consider a new amp - if classical or pop, think you'll be fine.
And I agree - having listened to both 8s and 10s in a showroom, I like the overall sound of the 8s better!

I too if I had to do it over I would go for 8's when ever they go on sale here in Canada I have the ok from my wife to pick them up !!
can't wait -
If they're being used primarily for HT, go for the 10's. I bought a pair of 10's recently to replace my RTi70's (predacessor to the RTi8's). The extra bass is cool.
Yeah, your 502 is fine. Nice receiver, by the way.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

If I am not mistaken I beleive lots of peeps claimed the 8's seemed better for HT with the use of a good sub .

I believe my SVS would be considered a "good sub." It's really a preference issue. I like lots of bass for HT, so that's why I like the 10's. Looks nicer, too. If I had the money, I'd have a sub for every speaker. In fact, some speaker manufacturers such as Def Tech make 'em that way, but Polks are much more budget-friendly.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Thanks for the replies everyone The system is gonna be probably 50/50 HT and music. Me and my wife listen to everything from Rock to Club to Jazz. I'm still a little crossed between the 2 (leaning towards the 8's) but seems like every place around here doesn't have the 10's to demo, they all have the 8's then the 12's . Gonna try another place tomorrow and see if they have both.

Willow,
I can get you the RTi 8's for $860 + GST + shipping if that's a good enough sale for you. The shipping would probably cancel out the savings from no PST here in Alberta. Not a super great deal but not bad.

I got my rti8's for 128 each at CC not that I am bragging or anything but I think you can get a much better deal then ncrewson is suggesting. If you shop around. Look at local CC's and hhgregg's.5.1 HT Set up
