Ohio Accuses Best Buy Of Misleading Customers
Complaint Asks For Customer Reimbursement
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio attorney general sued Best Buy on Thursday, claiming the electronics retailer engaged in unfair and deceptive business practices.
State Attorney General Jim Petro said his office has received hundreds of complaints against Best Buy over the past several years.
Petro said the most common complaint is that the Minnesota-based company repackaged used goods and sold them as new.
"The sheer number of complaints coupled with the types of allegations my office received prompted us to file this lawsuit," Petro said in a news release. "The primary objective of this lawsuit is to bring Best Buy into conformity with Ohio's consumer protection laws."
Consumers also charge Best Buy -- the largest U.S. electronics retailer -- with failing to honor rebates, refund and exchange programs, and extended service contracts.
The complaint asks a judge to order Best Buy reimburse customers who lost money.
It also wants a civil penalty of $25,000 for each violation of Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act.
Best Buy said Friday it is investigating the claim but wouldn't comment, saying it has a policy of not discussing pending litigation.

That must be why all their "Open Box" stuff is missing the manuals, remotes, box, packaging, etc. Gotta keep a stock of this stuff just in case, besides leading customers to getting the extended warranties.Make it Funky!
