How much are SDA 1's worth in fair shape?

What's the going price on these? Drivers all work but cabinets a little banged up. Does somebody have the diagram to make an interconnect cable?

What does the socket look like on the back, does it have two flat slots or one round above a flat slot?

    The 1C's go for $650-$700.

Thanks for the replys. From searching old posts like I should've done before I posted this, they appear to be the 1B's or maybe very early 1C's as they have the vertical tweeters and larger gap at the bottom of the cabinets. The interconnect is included as I have since found out. Will check on the pin layout as I don't have the speakers and they are not local. Was actually thinking of a nice Winter project of buying these and if I like the sound maybe redoing the cabinets in real wood. Of course being careful to keep internal dimensions the same so not to change the sound too much. Thoughts on this?

Do not remake the cabinets out of solid wood, it will change the acoustic properties. If the exterior is in bad condition then simply re-veneer them.

Change it. Birch ply seems to be the preferred sounding material.

Actually, from what I understand MDF is the preferred cabinet material.

Has anyone ever crafted the SDA 1 cabinets out of solid wood? I'll accept the fact that the sound quality would change but which way, better or worse? I'm going to change the cabinet one way or the other because I don't like the looks of it. I'm working on a couple of ideas with a local woodworker but nothing is set in stone. If solid wood has been tried and is really a sound killer I will steer clear as the wood alone is not cheap.

That would be the problem, one wouldn't know how they would sound using solid wood because each type of wood will have different properties and even boards of the same type of wood will be have different properties due to varying densities. To the best of my knowledge they are no speaker companies that use solid wood for their cabinets.

MDF is a very dead material. That is what you want if you rebuild them. I wouldn't though. Take some wood putty and sand paper and go at it. When you are done iron on some veneer or paint them black.

Better yet, why not wrap grill cloth all around them and make them look like mini 2.3's.

Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... :D

Just got back from Home Depot and noticed they carry 1/4 oak, birch, whatever you want plywood. If I left the speakers intact and covered them in that would it change the sound? Would have to trim it out with real wood to hide the seams. BTW, how do these compare to my 3.1's size wise?
