Hi, I would like to buy a 5.1 speaker systeme for watching movie and I would like to know what is the best for my small room. My room have 11 feet by 12 feet

I have two options :

Option 1 :
  • Front : RTI8
  • Back : RTI4
  • Center : CSI3
  • Sub : Not yet, no $$
or

Option 2
  • Front : RTI6
  • Back : RTI4
  • Center : CSI3
  • And a sub ( with the money i save with the RTi6 I can buy one but i don't know which one but not important yet )
I will plug it to a Yamaha 450 ( 85 watts X 6 ) , i know the power is not high but i don't watch movie with the volume at the top

It's sure, i would like to buy the option one because i find a floorstanding speaker look nice but i don't know if the tall of the RTI8 aren't to much for my little room ? Shoud i reallly need to add 120 $ for the rti8 ? I still to school and for this reason i don't have to much money to spend on this but I want to get the better speaker possible. Also, i can get the RTi8 for a good price ( the half of the price ) for this reason may be it's a good investment for the futur ?

[ Sory for my poor english, it's not my first language. ]

For that size room, stick with Option #2.

What is your budget for a sub? We can offer recommendations.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

    Thats small? You wanna trade???

    10.5x10.5x8 here man...

    Depends, I had bookshelfs before.

Similar to what you want, I had the RT35i, CS245i, and the RT25i.

I now have tower mains, and tower surrounds and I wouldnt have it any other way. Depends on what you like. Towers are definetely an improvement in ANY size room, just as long as you can seperate them by atleast 5-6 feet...
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I too use option #2 now in a small 12X12 room just for HT purposes and find it "more" than adequate (see sig) . The only thing in my system that maybe over-kill for the small size room is my PSW505 . I purchased the 505 at such a deal I could not pass it up ; but again it does a very nice job on the bass for movies and really does not take up that much more space than any other traditional powered sub .

If I could have gotten a nice deal on some Rti8's or 10's , like I did with my 6's (CircuitCity closeout) , then I probably would have gone with a tower speaker instead .

Since you say the RTi8's are only $120 more (1/2 off original price) , I would highly consider option #1 ; only because the cost of speaker stands for 6's will cost you $60-$120 and the 8's maybe more "future-proof" investment as you suggested .

As things are now , Iam plenty happy with my setup as it stands ; but I would not mind having a set of 8's over the 6's if the price were right .

Don't rule out a sub for option #1 just yet. Look at Circuit City for the speakers. Sometimes they offer very good prices. I have seen the RTi8 priced only slightly higher than the RTi6.

    I'd go for option 2.
I think the benefits of having a sub far outweight the difference between the RTi6 & RTi8.

The RTi6's are superb speakers as are the 8's.
But having a good sub is significantly better than going 8's if thats what the decision has to be. The 8's arent going to have that "boom" that the sub will provide.

    Cheers Lee.

If you really like option 1 than go for it. My room is about 12 x 12 & I have floor standers as well as a sub as you can see by my equipment list. I love it.

Go for option 1, you will not regret it. You will always want to upgrade in the future if you go smaller. That will cost you way more than if you got the better speaker now. I have rti10's in my room, 14'x11'x7', and they sound awsome!
