Anyone own the Sony VLP-HS20? Hows does it compare to a good 65in ws tv? I have light control, & would be sitting appx 12 ft from the screen. What would be the best size of pic to go with? I like a 7-8ft pic. thanks ps I think Sony is coming out with a new one HS51 anyone know where I can find one ?

looks like you'd get around a 79" screen at 12 feet back.
Projector Calculator for that sony model at www.projectorcentral.comSony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15 -
for about 500 more you can get a benq 8700 and it is a sweet pj. the reason you go fp is if you want to go big.

I've got an HS20 and love it!! I'm watching the Ravens v. Eagles game in HD as we speak. Absolutely beautiful picture!! No verticle banding at all and no artifacts. My first pow of seats is 12' from my screen and there is no Screen Door Effect (SDE). My screen is 106" diag 16x9 aspect DIY. Click on my sig to see it.

What?? Are you sure about that? -
That would put the 8700 in the $3400 range...I don't think so. last time I looked they were still around $5k.for about 500 more you can get a benq 8700 -
Thanks everyone!!! The only way to use a proj. & screen in my room is to have it mounted on the ceiling & pull it down or have a motorized system. I want to keep my rptv & have the screen come down in front of the rptv. If I do this Ill have to mount the screen on a drop ceiling or bracket to drop the screen down to the proper angel. Will that work? thanks againMy HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

Sure, it can be done. Just about all of the screen manufacturers offer a manual or motorized screen.
I got rid of my 55" mitsubishi when I got my FP. No regretts at all. -
I have my custom painted pull down screen just wasting away in my storage shed......:(

May I ask why you went with a smaller size screen? My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

I didn't, I went with a much larger custom DIY 12 foot screen. Which is also hanging out for the time being. I recently went with a 65" WS HDTV RP......
If you talking about the RP:
1) Picture quality is insane
2) Sell my FP before I lost ALL my investment in it.
3) Much better Shelf Life and No $500 bulb replacement.
4) Better Warrenty
5) I knew I was going to be moving around and setup can be troubling.
Still am a hug e FP fan and will buy another when i build another home - by then the technology will be light speed.
They are selling FP on "The Home Shopping Network" and the front cover of every HomeTheater mag. When I bought my Infocus people were scared to death of the things.
Now its like selling Krell at Wal-Mart.;) -

I'm checking into the pj. Thx Frank!

And per the PJ Peeps, the sony is actually 2900 and the 8700 is 4300.
-
if you ask for a discount they will give it to you i talked them down to 4k
-
interesting. I wonder if they discount the sony.
-
I called them when I was looking for one. They had a huge waiting list and were not offering any discounts at that time. The only way to know for sure is to call and ask.
