Under 300.00, two screens with speakers, should make the trip to grandma's house easier.

thats a pretty good price even though I have never heard of the brand. Thanks for the link. It's about an 8 hr trip for us, and I don't really like the little one using the wife's laptop.

I like the ad... "Kids fighting over who sits closest to the screen?"

What is the world coming to. I remember fighting over who gets to sit next to the window that would still roll down!

Eh, it's what are PEOPLE coming to. I remember the same fight, and it was only 15 years ago, maybe even less. Cuz as kids we weren't (too) spoiled, and worked with what we had. On a long road trip, I'd like to think we'd rather see new and exciting things out the window than the same old crap we could see at home on the TV. And honestly, I thank my parents for that when I see the spoiled brats running around today.

And my brand new truck STILL has roll-down windows :) Damn Dodge..
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Brats are brats because the parents don't discipline. Plain and simple. End of story.

On a long road trip I'd like to think the same thing, and If we were driving through the mountains that would be the case - for sure, but a trip to grandma's twice a year from Texas to New Mexico, basically 8 hrs (one way) of absolutely nothing to look at except for dirt and cactus, is old after lets say 1 minute. So in this case I would love to be able to let my little one watch a few DVD's to help the time pass faster.

i'd buy from a store with a liberal return policy and get an extended warranty. also, i probably wouldn't buy something like this mail order, for the return hassle.

i very rarely get extended warranties but since i'm sticking to the cheaper units, the look and feel of these devices and the intended rough use made me think it was a good idea.

i ended up using the warranty with a go-video from sears. the unit was flakey intermitently so i exchanged it for a memorex and haven't had any trouble for the few trips we've used it on since. we'll get another 10-12 hours on it in a few weeks. if there's interest, i'll update the thread if there are any problems.

the car-kit and bag included helps. i bought a bag and some mounting gear for the first one, then had to buy again for the second since it was a bit bigger.

the only problem i'd have with the two screens is more connections to go bad. the jacks seem to be a weak point in both units i've had. though with the redundancy, you can probably expect at least one screen to work if nothing else goes wrong. the bonus is that it might be easier to place screens alone than screens attached to the unit. also the unit can be in the front for easier loading if the kids can't do it themselves.

the durabrand does not include a battery, though the only thing that saves is rebooting after stopping for gas. the capacities on the units i've had are just enough for a movie(if that), not a long trip.

    good luck.

I was always fairly entertained on road trips by the interesting sites of the world and the chance to see places I've never seen before, or to see other places again. Kinda feel sorry for these kids who's parents are letting them drown in movies - they're going to be 18 and not know what the world beyond a 30 minute drive looks like.

Ok, maybe I'm being pretentious, but it seems like music is a better alternative for mobile entertainment.

Check at your local Sams Club first. I saw some pretty cheap ones there but I didn't stop to look at them.
