I was lookin at some HU's recently because i want to replace my Eclipse one, and i stumbled upon this Panasonic MXE CQ-C9800U. I was looking at the specs, and i was kinda surprised to see it is 70 x 4 max, but what really was interesting was its rated at 60 x 4 RMS. Does anyone know anything about this HU?Panasonic MXE CQ-C9800U

I know that the power ratings are BS.

That is the most power Ive seen advertised but you have to consider that the amp for that head unit is about 3" wide and 1" deep. You will never be able to get much power out of something that small.

That 70 watts is a "maximum output if struck by lightening" rather than a continuous, real world rating. All head units will put out no more than 20 watts per channel RMS. On top of that it will have about 3% distortion which is awful.

The only time a h/u should be used for running speakers is in the interim when youre saving up the scratch for an amp.

Consider the size of any normal amp that puts out 60x4...they are at least 4 times the size of a HU. Don't you think that amp manufacturers would make them smaller, if they could do it while still being clean and making their rated power? Think of it that way and you know that HU manufacturers are lying...

I ripped out a Class D amp out of an "Executive" cd player a couple weeks ago... and although it was small than my hand, it only put out 15Wx2 channels.

Now thw Xtant 1.1 full range Class D amp puts out a little over 100 rms of super clean power and this thing is small!

Of course being an Xtant, its expensive. $350!
