Yamaha A/V receiver ?

OK, this is somewhat of a mystery! I just bought a Yamaha HTR-5790 receiver and replaced my Yamaha HTR-5660 receiver. As I had things torn apart installing it, I ran a TosLink cable from my Integra CD player to the HTR-5790, so besides using the normal analog CD player outputs for my 2 channel system I could also use the CD player for my HTR system. Now when using the 2 channel system with the HTR-5790 in stand-by mode, the HTR-5790 is sending enough signal to the pre-outs to trigger my HK PA2000 and Outlaw M200 that are both set to music sense turn-on mode. Any thoughts?

Not sure if I'm following you here. You are saying that when you listen to your two channel system with the Yamaha in standby that the amps on you HT system (the H/K and the Outlaw) turn on? Normally this is done with 12V "triggers" and not with preouts. I don't believe the Toslink has anything to do with this.

Perhaps you can provide a little more specific detail as to what is going on starting with everything in "off" or in standby mode. i.e. what are you turning on first, etc.

    I'll try to clarify!

HTR-5790 turned off w/remote and in stand-by mode
Outlaw M200 set to signal sense turn-on (I'm not using the 12v trigger)
HK PA2000 set to signal sense turn-on (again, I'm not using the 12v trigger)

Both the Outlaw and HK are showing stand-by mode based on the led indicators

I turn on my Integra CD player that has an optical connection to the HTR-5790 and an analog interconnect to my Yamaha AX900U amplifier that runs my SDA-2B's.
I then hit play on the Integra CD player

After a few seconds both the Outlaw and HK switch from stand-by to on (based on the led indicators switching from amber to green)

After about 20 mins. both the Outlaw and the HK go back into stand-by mode.

    It's kind of weird!

Hi, I have a Yamaha RX-V1400 pre/pro and in the beginning I tried the signal sensing feature on my NAD C272 2-ch AMP. I had to turn up the volume to high on to wake up my NAD C272 and if the volume is low the NAD will go into standby mode. I didn't like this feature at all. Now I just manually turn ON my NAD.

I think you should do the same.
    cheers!

    Hmmm that is pretty weird.

So if you disconnect the toslink the problem goes away?

If you are worried about it, I would run the HTR amps with a trigger. You can find the 12 V miniplug cables at Radio Shack for about $6 for two of them. I would be curious as to if that solves the problem.
