For most of my Polk speakers, no. The 5 year warranty and Polk's customer service is good.

For the 2 model Rti70s I got for $109 dollars apiece. I splurged and got the $29 service contract from CC. Just to avoid any possible hassles with warranty service.

Never, and I have had to use warranty service. With the CS dept here, I know I would never need to.

No, same as the others, my Polk speakers were purchased from an authorized dealers; w/the 5 yr warranty and CS from Polk, I didn't feel the need to purchase the extended warranty. However, if I were to buy speakers from an unauthorized dealer, I probably would buy the extended warranty.

Never. There is a reason why EWs are the most profitable sales for places like CC and BB. Same applies for auto EWs. I've seen the numbers from a couple of car dealerships that sell them and the profits are obscene. Also NEVER....and I mean NEVER buy credit life insurance when you borrow money. It is by far the most expensive life insurance you can buy...it is a true rip-off!

No. i never buy the exteneded warranty for speakers. or any other item that's less than $500.

I do buy extended warranty's for used cars. My last two cars either needed a new engine or a new transmission. BOth would have been expensive if I would have had to foot either one of those bills out of pocket. I believe in used car extended warranties.

Nope except for when we bought the big Mits RPTV. Don't buy them for tires, electronics, appliances, nothin'. As pointed out, their profits margins for those are nauseating; I've seen as high as ten times the commish rate for sales.

No. But I wish my Dad had bought one for his M&K when he got it because that is the only speaker I have blown up...hahhahahhaa

Extended Warranties are just a way for a store to make money. Heck, I havnt had any real problems with my stuff, except for the time I had a power surge.... and lost a couple of amp channels, but that didn't slow me down.

I've never believed in extended warranties, but now that my second 35" tube tv has blown up 1 month after their 2 year warranty period was up makes me wonder!

I'll find out on Friday if the Sony's repair is as high as the $900 bill on the $1000 Zenith.

I'd swear they have internal timers that know when to blow. They just don't build'em like they used to. I had TVs last 15 years before I bought these.

Never for speakers. Most speakers have good warranties to begin with. I believe my Polks were 5 yrs ?

Maybe for a big screen if the price is right.

Gotta give a shameless plug for Wolf Camera (where I work) and the accidental damage protection offered by the store. Unlike the crappy warrenties at big retailers, this thing covers everything but theft.

Anything that breaks your camera: you drop on the ground, drop it in water, wife throws it at you for waking her up with some Floyd at reference levels, dog eats it - any sort of damage and it's repaired or replaced for free. The replaced camera comes with the same plan you already payed for, so you could break your camera 20 times and it's still covered. Basically you never have to worry about where you take your camera, so you can always get the pictures you want.

Just something to keep in mind while camera shopping.

I bought one on a display unit Kenwood CD/receiver for my truck. I figured that as a display unit the Lord only knows who or what has done something to it. One also came in handy on pick-up though. I'm with danger boy for used cars and I would at least consider it for a new vehicle as well.

    Otherwise, not but HELL NO!

I bought EW's on both my big Hitachis, I consider it part of the cost of the TV. Other stuff, no.

New vehicle additional EW's suck, if you actually read the fine print, they don't cover much.

On my very first home appliance puchase I took the time and figured out the cost of EW. It was a washer/dryer for $740 new. The EW price was only a small percentage of the total cost so I was curious. I did a lot of homework and found out they have a useable life of 15 to 20 years with a certain number of them crapping out in 7 to 10 years. A very small selections of lemons crap out in 3 to 5 years. I picked the 15 year mark and figured out the total cost of the EW to keep them covered for this period. Turned out to be somewhere around $2000. For this cost I could buy 3 new pairs in the next 15 years. That is a new pair every 5 years. In the absolute worst case I could break even on it. So far my new pair of appliances are 14 years old and have never had an issue. Right now I'm wondering what to buy with the extra 2 grand I saved by not buying the agreements. Maybe some more audio equipment!!!

I normally wouldn't ever buy it on speakers, and in fact, I usually tell people I'm selling speakers to not to bother with it. I did however buy it on my athena as-f2's. Even though the warranty is actually only four years, it was only 30 bucks for the pair and it will save me hassle and potential shipping costs if I decide to get real messed up and overdrive them with my under powered denon. I, for the most part, won't consider buying a tv anymore at least over 300 dollars without the extended warranty. My component input **** up on my sharp 27 incher shortly after the three month labor warranty has really rubbed me the wrong way. Luckily, the different in picture quality between s-video and component video on an analog tv, while not negligible, is certainly not dramatic either.

Most of the speakers I have are from companies that are either defunct, or have been bought, sold, and conglomerized so many times that I'd have to say no.

Not on speakers. But I have on many other electronics. As a former sales person in the industry I have seen them pay off many times. It's true that they are huge profit makers for the stores but when by brother in-law's HK 7000 blew up, he was glad he spent the $100 on the warranty from me as just got his new HK 7300. I'm also on my second computer from my warranty, and 1 more repair and its onto number 3, have a new cordless phone too. Just don't forget that you have it, and know what the conditions are that work in your favour. Most stores offer to replace with something of equal or greater features, not price, so that when technology gets cheaper they are not stuck with as high of as bill. Well if you know all the little obscure features of your product, you can sometimes move up in models.
But still no to speakers, 5 years from most reputable companies, 95% of them will have no problems, and 95% of those that do will be abuse or misuse.

I must be the odd man out. All but 2 speakers I have bought have the 10yr EW form CC. I figure that if something does go wrong it will be covered and if I sell them the warrenty goes with the speakers and any bad shipping or power supply issues and accidents are covered. I already used it on a bad woffer in the 202 I use to have before I sold it.

i can never remember when a standard warranty is up, so for the most part i'd probably forget to use an extended warranty if i had it. agreed they're usually a bad bet.

the only 2 extended warranties i remember buying are for a ford f-250 and a cheapo portable dvd player. the price made both reasonable bets. both paid off.

I did not know this could be done and honestly I was not planning on doing this at first. If you can at a store say...I will buy X speaker at a lower price BUT I will also buy the extended warrenty with it. Then usually they will agree because warrenties are like gold for managers at BB, CC, etc. etc. Then like a month later you can get your money back on the extended warrenty at a pro-rated price but because it has only been like a month you will get almost all of you money back. I did this at CC. ALthough I did not plan to do it I didi not know you could get a refund on your warrenty. I doubt my speakers will break withing the 5 year polk contract.
