Being the cheapskate that I am, I am always on the lookout for practical solution to housing my A/V components. I posted this thread at head-fi.org several months ago. And now I am flipping through the pages of the new catalog....

If you have pics of your IKEA "audio/video" furniture, let's see....:D

I found the below "rack" pretty cool considering they're made from IKEA Lack (starting at $9.99 each, dependent on finish) side tables.

Last week I was actually in an IKEA at the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. People here LOVE that stuff. I've never been in on in the US though. To me it's like a huge Pier One Imports.

Hmmm. I own a couple of Lack tables. And my wife was planning on dragging me to the nearest IKEA this Sunday. If I can some how turn this into a HT shopping trip my Sunday won't be wasted.

I searched for a solution to my problem and was only able to find it at Ikea. Wanted a cabinet that would keep out rugrat and eventually hold or look good under a big flat panel TV. I picked the Magiker TV Cabinet. It has a single sliding glass door that my kid hasn't figured out, although I will probably have to add a latch soon. I cleared the shelves out of the middle which is about 10" wide and 18" high and am now using a bookshelf as my center channel. When I upgrade to 6.1 from 5.1, I'll take the other bookshelf and lay it on its back behind the couch.

I have to say the design is pretty nice because the back panel on the center section is moved in about 6 inches with cutouts to the left and right sides which allows you to handle some cable management issues relatively invisibly.

My only gripe is that those effin europeans love their particle board.......

Just the thought of spending the kind of money they want for many of their cheaply made things makes me twitch. I've bought several things from IKEA, but nothing wood, and I'm not about to try it.

When it comes down to furniture, I have NO problem forkin over some extra coin for some good, long lasting, quality pieces........

    i'm with the brett man..

i'd rather pay more for high quality furniture that will last instead of a particle board furniture.

    give me dovetails anytime. ;)

I didn't mean to offend if that's how it came off.

I just think of IKEA furniture as disposable furniture......either it will break if you move it around too much, or you will have to deal with chips as long as you own the stuff.

Compared to what a company called Copenhagen charges for the same materials, IKEA is a steal.......but both rank low on my list for materials used....

Not an IKEA fan either. Its cheap and trendy. Maybe thats good though, as it will surely break by the time its out of style.

Give me something timeless, heavy, and made of big pieces of whole wood.

I tend to agree with the quality of IKEA furniture not being the greatest. That said they do make so awesome stuff for kids rooms. And particle board kids dressers are fine for the short term use. My wife however seems to think that all our furniture shoul come from IKEA. I draw the line at matresses, and sofas. These things I want comfortable and long lasting.

I like Ikea so much, I want to go on a killing spree by the time I actually find my way out of the store.

Could it possible be MORE like a maze? I keep on thinking a Minotaur is gonna come rambling around the corner looking for me :(
