I was using one for awhile but I get better performance from my Zenith antenna.

I've got one. It seems to suck, but I've never tried to mount it in the attic or outside. I would look for a different model.

i'm using the Terk 55 HDTV antenna. it's ok. it does need really good clearance to work best. I have mine on a pole outside on the house.. but not on the roof. sometimes the picture starts to break up.
other times. it's rock solid. place the antenna the highest you can for best results.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Really...I've been looking for a good indoor antenna, just assumed they didn't exist...
You may also want to check out the Radio Shack HDTV antenna. It has gotten some good feedback over on the AVS forum. Also, check out the SquareShooter from Winegard. This antenna can be mounted just about anywhere (outdoors) and can even be tied into an existing satellite dish. -
There is no such thing as a HDTV antenna. HDTV is broadcast on the same VHF/UHF spectrum as standard definition TV. Labeling an antenna as HDTV is merely a marketing gimmick.Proud SOPA Member since 2005!

that's true.. and they can charge more for em too.
any old fashioned pair of rabbit ears will pick up an HDTV signal.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Hum..... so all you have to do is have an HDTV ready tv, and a set of standard rabbit ears, then you tune to the HD channel?Polk LSi 15 Fronts

there are two kinds of HDTV's... well types any ways..
HDTV ready.. you use an external HDTV decoder with this kind to get your HDTV broadcasts.
HDTV integrated - the HDTV decoder is built into the set. No need for an external decoder
yes your rabbit ears will work.. granted you need to have a good strong signal. I live in a hilly part of the county.. so for best results.. an outdoor antenna works best. When i used rabbit ears to get my HDTV signal.. it kept breaking up.. the signal was to weak to keep the picture stable.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Ok, pardon my lack of knowledge here...
I just got my Sony LCD rear projection tv, which is HDTV ready, no tuner included. Does this mean that :
I need a decoder, and antenna ( if the decoder box does not get a strong enough signal..)?
Am I correct in my thought process here?

As I understand it.. a TV that is HD ready.. does need a decoder.... sometimes they are also called monitors.
Integrated or full HDTV will have the decoder built in. Most of the rear projection Sonys appear to have a built in HDTV tuner. I"m not sure about your model though.
Sounds like from you said... there is no HDTV tuner in the set itself. So if this is the case.. yes you will need a HDTV tuner/decoder and an antenna.
The HDTV decoder box does not have any antenna built into it.. so you will need an antenna regardless.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Well crap...
I still need to double check the owners guide, but I am pretty sure that I do not have a built in decoder....that means that I will have to spring for another 500.00 bucks or so.....oh well. There is only one station broadcasting in HD anyway...Polk LSi 15 Fronts

Here is an example of a decoder:

Here is info on antenna's and what kind to buy depending on where the hd is broadcase in your area (usually UHF)
Antenna's -
I have been playing with HDTV for a few years now and after many attempts to get an antenna that would pull in all the stations I finally found one that works well.
This little thing works really well and was cheap. I live within 30 miles of the local broadcast antenna and have tried many others with no luck.
I even put a huge chanel master up in the attic, as well as tried the TERK 55. Neither could bring in the signal as well as the little double bowtie from RS.
Good luckFront
