Need some review about F/X 1000s

Hi to everybody! I'm a new member to Club Polk and a great polk audio fan. This is my first post!
I've recently bought Polk Audio speakers for the first time in my life for only Cdn. $2600 including tax. Its a steal to get such incredible speakers at this price, especially here in Canada. My every single penny is worth. I've never heard them before buying, just wanted to keep a surprise to myself. I read so many excellent reviews on them you won't believe it.
Polk CS 400i
Polk RT 800i's
Polk F/X 1000's
So far I've received CS 400i & RT 800i's and very impressed by the performance of these high-end speakers. F/X 1000's are back-ordered.
I went to www.audioreview.com but there are only 2 reviews on
F/X 1000's. Searched on the web but still couldn't find reviews. Lot of people own F/X 500i's or F/X 300i's.
Question?
My question is how different F/X 1000's compare to F/X 500i's.
Is there an advantage of having extra driver.
I bought F/X 1000's because they've 250 watts of power and they've dual mid/bass drivers. My all speakers have dual drivers and they are 250 watts. I think its a great idea to have same power and number of drivers to have in all speakers.
What do you think?
Thank you for the help,
Hamzah Shaikh.

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you have the makings of a polkaphile.
I think the fx1000's would be overkill in the surround dept.
They are designed to match the rt3000 mains and cs1000 center.
The 500's will match your system,(same driver and tweeter) admirably.
The fx1000's are rated to 250amps, they themselves are not powered.
If you're looking for something more musical for surrounds, for 5.1 music, consider the rt35i's.

i'm with luc, the 1000's are going to be overkill. if i were you, i'd stick with the 500's since they're voice matched with the rest of your setup and a good bit cheaper than the 1000's.
remember, your surround channels aren't used as often as you would think, so that extra driver may not be needed (personal preference). i feel that the 500's would sound excellent and are probably the best surrounds for the money.
on the other hand, a pair of 35i's wouldn't sound all that bad either. they're basically a direct version of the 500's (they don't have the extra tweeter)
either way, you've made a wise decision! feel free to post here as often as you can and be sure to keep us up to date on what setup you decide on... good luck!

i've heard the f/x 1000's in a show room, and WOW, amazing, but they were paired with the 3000 fronts and 1000 center, i would save some $$$, and get the f/x500i's if you can. those will mate well with your 800/400's up front...
i have the 800/400 front soudstage, and i am running 35's for side surrounds, i think they do the job well, i want to bring a pair of f/x500's home to test them against each other, and wee which sounds better in my set-up. i am happy with the 35's, but you can always have something new, right?;)
welcome to the forum...:D -
Juice21, are you considering using the 500i's for side surround (dipole style) and placing your 35i's behind you? If not, can you explain as to why? I ask because that is my plan of action, and today the 35i's arrive. I also have the 800i, 400i, 500i, 35i package of speakers. I was thinking that the best way to utilize them would be to configure them as mentioned above. Just curious.

right now i have 800's fronts, 400 center, 35's side surround and 25's behind me. i was thinking of replacing the 35's with 500's and pairing the 35's up with the 800's up front. i listened for about an hour one day through a bunch of demo material (after seeing TUI's set-up), and this sounded really good. i've loved the sonds of the 500's in a demo room at a local hi-fi place, just haven't gotten them home to test them against the 35's for the same position, the 35's are good as side surrounds, i just want to hear that diffuse sound...
the 35's behind you will be sweet!!! just a step up from my 25's. -
Thanks to everybody. I also decided to buy F/X 500i first, but when I read the specs I found F/X 1000 is much more superior and powerful surround speakers. Money wasn't an issue for me F/X 1000s were Cdn. $600 more but its a good investment anyways.
In future I already planned to buy a 7.1 THX-certified receiver from DENON and they have tremendous power like 170watts per channel. F/X 1000's can handle upto 250watts of power. So even in future the A/V receiver won't harm them. Also F/X 1000s can handle sound much better than F/X 500s due to its power rating,
As you know bigger speakers can handle sound and music much better, where small become harsh and bright and that's what I hate. Different people have different opinions!
After couple of months I'll buy a Velodyne CHT-15" subwoofer which has 750watts of power and it is 300 RMS. Now don't tell me it is an overkill
This is the best subwoofer I can ever
buy and is only Cdn. $1370 including tax. It is a steal for this kind of a subwoofer. The Velodyne CHT-10" is Cdn. $ 700 and has 375watts of power. Now tell me which is a better deal. I won't mind spending $600 more because you're buying the best. So I did the same thing with F/X 1000's.
I usually believe in making money worth. If you have money go for it and buy the best. An old saying " You get what you pay for."
The best thing I love about F/X 1000's is their dual drivers and they have the same power of 250watts as RT 800i and CS 400i.
Dual drivers are great so in both direction you have a driver which is really great where F/X 500i's have only one. All in all they would perform great in any situation. So my speakers would be timbre match in terms of power and number of drivers.
Their is no such rule to use F/X 500i's with CS 400i & RT 800i. Some people have totally different set of speakers and they love it because thats what they want. Polk Audio put F/X 500i's so people can save money and still get the best stuff but let's say if someone wants to spend little bit more money. I know lot of people will follow that recommendation but every person is always his own boss. Do what you want, as long as you're happy.
Thanks to everybody but I love F/X 1000s and can't wait to get them.

Regarding the Velodyne subs:
I recently had a Circuit City sales guy demo the CHT-10, CHT-12 and Polk's PSW450. The sales guy didn't really know how to demo these and he had some fronts blasting away and asks me how I liked the subwoofer he had on. I couldn't even tell which one was being demo'd, so I had him turn off all the other crap he had on, and I set the subwoofers up to all the same settings on their back panels and had him flip through the three.
I went in with the same logic as you: wanting to get the biggest subwoofer for my money and I could have gotten anyone of the three.
The Velodyne CHT-10 had a much crisper "punch" to it than the other two. I wound up with the "cheaper" of the three. The other two 12 inch subs had a more "muddy" bass sound to them. I'm just not into the "boom-boom-boom" anymore.
The moral of the story is that you really need to hear the speakers side-by-side and set up the same on the same piece of music. Don't be afraid to push the sales guy out of the way either. Most really don't know what the hell they're doing. Their next sale could be a toaster oven.
I'm glad that I did hear these three. Just because you may be able to bank roll a $6,000.00 (US) Polk/Velodyne speaker system, it may not really sound any better then a $3,000.00 (US) Polk/Velodyne speaker system when you get it home. -
Hi Presidan!
I live in Toronto, ON. I paid Cdn. $1100 including tax for F/X 1000's
F/X 500i's were Cdn. $500 including tax. but I changed my mind and bought these babies.
I paid Cdn. $2600 including tax no interest and no payment for 6
months from Downtown-TV shop at Yong & Dundas St.
FOR:-
Polk CS 400i
Polk RT 800i's
Polk F/X 1000i's
If money flows by I'll buy a Velodyne CHT-15" sub 750 watts for just Cdn. $1370 including tax from Future Shop.
Tell about your speakers and how much you paid.
KILLER HT!

Well i paid 3000 CAN $ (taxes included, 15% here) for a pair of RT2000i's and a pair of F/X1000's
The 1000's are quite impressive although i havent really tested them real good yet.
They give a good surround effect and can play some good bass for surround speakersRT2000i
