New Smaller SVS Sub to hit the market

I just read in the SVS NewsLink that they will be releasing a sub smaller sub in the $400 price range. It will be interesting to see what this sub will be, box, tube, etc...
could be interesting.

Yeah, I saw that too. I would say a 10" driver in a box judging by the model number. PB10-ISD. ?

I agree Eric that it will probably be a box sub, but the ISD at the end stands for "improved standard driver", and that is their 12" driver. Here is the ISD driver.

Right, but that would be a PB1-ISD. I think they'll go smaller. We'll see!

It will be a 10" driver - which is a first for SVS. Powered box with a ISD class driver for around $400. Going to be a nice sounding entry level sub i'm sure but will be like buying a quality 14" HDTV if you know what I mean.
And actually it would not really be hitting the "market" since you can only get thier subs from SVS web site.:D

Here is some more info straight from the horse's mouth. A box sub with 10" driver from TC sounds and amp from Indigo for $400, how do they do it?

Great to see the SVS guys so active on forums. Just like the Name and I said. Interesting front firing - 3" port - TC woofer and BASH - NICE!!!!
Like to put it up against my Boston Acoustic VR500. Best 10incher I have ever heard - front firing with 2 2.5" ports.
Nice to know that more people can afford SVS quality - I guess.:D

Interesting to me that so many subs use 12'' drivers

In the music business, most bass players have gone to 10'' drivers in their rigs, most of the high end setups are this way, with an ocassional 18" to go with them, and guitar players (like me) almost all use 12's.

Thats why the new LSiW is on my radar, it has 2 10" drivers.
That should be music to my ears..

You should tell Wilson Audio that, 10" is better

Dual 19's, gigantic ports - cost 20,000 - 10,000 used (with no amp)

However Wilson does have a 10" subwoofer as well, but that isnt exactly their reference subwoofer either...

It is not the size of the driver. It is the *QUALITY* of the driver.

SVS has good *QUALITY* drivers, the PC Ultra uses a 580 dollar woofer man...

You can buy a 1,000 dollar 8" woofer, and then go out and buy a 50 dollar 18" woofer... I think the 8" will beat it in many respects...

Size of the woofer isnt exactly the musical side of things if you ask me. You just gotta get something with quality. And pro audio drivers/speakers are not a very good example of anything in musical accuracy by any means...

Anyway, back on subject...

That sounds interesting man, and I think I will have to get one of my friends interested in it so they will buy (OH DES!!!)

If you're referring to the crap they sell at Guitar Center, you're right. Same concept applies-you can buy a $500 speaker or a $5000 one and have a world of difference.

Pro audio drivers and home audio drivers are two different animals from my experience.
Modern day 12"ers are just as accurate and quick and WILL go lower than most 10"ers which is very important in todays HT market........

Ron from SVS indicated on HTForurm that the dimensions are 15" wide, 18" tall, and 21" depth. They have not given the frequency as to how low it can go. I imagine that SVS will match HSU STF2 @ 25Hz for the low.

Market research shows at this size and price point, something like 0.1% of owners use high level inputs, the low pass filter, and the fixed high pass outputs.

Honestly, the high level connections and onboard filters are (for the most part) an archaic carry over from the days before digital BM.

This sub was designed for the modern AVR with on-board digital bass management and a sub pre-out. SVS retained the gain and continuously variable phase (a key feature IMO), shitcanned the rest, and poured the money into the outstanding TC-Sounds woofer.

Dr. Spec, I use pre-out rca connection from my amp to the sub, so when I use the pure audio format, the sub still plays w/the RTi70 set to large. Will the PB10 plays in pure audio mode connected through the sub-out on the receiver, when I set the RTi 70 to large?

Zero, you can build your own sub, why not do it again. You can make a better sub for $400. $150 for a Tempest, $150 for a PE plate amp with high level inputs, $100 for a port or two, MDF, and paint and copy one of the reference designs from Adire.

Sorry but for a high quality sub company like SVS, speaker line ins are pointless. I wish my PB2+ did not have them and they look aweful to boot.
They make sence on a BOSE passive sub but not on a HQ powered sub.

And apparently SVS is getting the message but they started to late. The entry level subs should have them and the higher end should not.

you can still use the sub out on your receiver or pre for 2 channel music, you dont need the speaker line ins for 2 channel music with a sub.

SVS is going sell a butt load of those subs.. people are going eat them up like candy.

It's cool to see this happening. Maybe other makers will lower the price of their subs to keep in the race.

May be a 2 channel preference (no clue why) but being a HT fan thier is no comparision with LFE out on a quality reciever.

Eventually, SVS will follow in the footsteps of Hsu and figure out how to place their lower-priced subs in retail establishments. That way, they'll open up a whole new market for folks who never heard of SVS; for those who are reluctant to purchase off the Internet; and for those who need to test drive speakers before they buy them.
