I was in Circuit City today and picked up a pair of MTX monitor 10's,I bought them for my son,its going to be part of his Christmas,he is currently using my rt35i bookshelves, which really sounds good,he has an Onkyo tx8511 reciever good little unit, pretty powerfull, but he wants more bass,he's 14 so you know,he wants to knock pictures off the walls,so I thought these would serve him well. They retail for $300 a pair,I got demos for $186 a pair...what do ya think, good loud rock n roll speaker?

Most of this is true. I'm sure he'll love them.Make it Funky! -
I currently own the MONITOR 10s, and I have loved them dearly, they are great tower speakers, but not without limitations.
Pros:
Very Bassy, good low end takes a ton of bass to max out the speaker. Good inexpensive tower speaker, you get the full three way at half the cost, Mids are fantastic also.
Cons:
The speakers have pretty bad high end response, the tweeter rolls off sharply at about 17k Hz, and the highs are a little bit unclear. Also the midrange is not in it's own enclosure, so if there is a strong enough drumkick, it will suck in the midrange, thus resulting in some distortion, otherwise, it's a fantastic speaker, I think I left some pros out, but you'll figure them out, good luck with em'. -
After posting, I decided to pop in Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory, and put it in stereo mode, and I decided to myself, yup I did good when I bought them, these speakers will carry the day, hell, they'll carry the year, have fun, and don't be afraid to crank, they can do it.
Just an interesting point, these things pretty much turn my R20s and CSi5 into passive radiators with their slammin' bass. You might wanna warn the neighbors. -
Thanx for the replies,I think they'll do the trick...cant hardly wait till Christmas to give them to him...and another bright point of him recieving these speakers is...I get back my RT35i's back:D
Also I have to share this with yall,I got a real chuckle other day over hearing my 14 year old tell his 14 old friend why his 100w Onkyo reciever is better than his friends parents 500w Pioneer...high current man...lol! -
Sounds like you are trying to train him well!

Yea,he loves them their hooked up to his 100wpc receiver and sound pretty darn good for what they are.He put in a remastered ac/dc highway to hell cd and it sounds awsome, the 10" drivers really hit hard, and sound very clean,I mean not near the detail of my rti8's,not as precise...but they surely out rock them, even with my sub the mtx's blow them out of the water in the rock n roll department!15 years ago I would prefer them over the 8's...but Im all grown up now...
