Powered Sub to a Reciver

I am in the process of setting up my system:
RM7200
Onkyo 601
Onkyo CD/DVD
Monster Speaker Selector
Cambridge SoundWorks 52s Outside Speakers
The Polk manual suggest not to use the sub output. I believe the receiver asks if the sub us powered or not. BIf the receiver does pose the question will it self adjust for the powered sub and should it be okay to use this or should I connect as the manual suggest and why????
Thanks in advance for your respone.

Welcome Paul,
You can do it either way, which ever is easier. If you try the "polk way" turn the sub off on the receiver menu and the bass will be directed to the main speakers. The sub will then filter out the bass and pass the rest on to the main speakers. But if it is easier for you to use the sub cable that is fine too, just turn the sub output on in the menu.Graham -
Thanks for the response
