Mounting my f/x500's directly above the listening position, only flat on the ceiling?
I dont have room on the right wall, (window), to mount them in the recommended position.
I could just go to the rear wall, but I've heard this, and i prefer the dipole in line with the listening position.
Any Ideas, or experience with mounting this speaker like this?
I checked out all the omnimounts, but nothing really jumped out at me. I thought maybe some type of strap that I could line with a foam strip, then pull tight around the strip separating the 2 speaker surfaces, so as not to have to drill any holes.

I'd be afraid to sit under them.

But seriously......... "I keep tryin' to think, but nuthin' happens".

i wouldn't want to sit under them either.
is there any way you could build a custom stand to place them in the ideal side positon, so it could sit in front of the window, or is that a no-can-do either? (not the best aesthetic solution, but possibly a solution???) -
What I dont understand is why you wouldnt want to sit under them?
Are you suggesting they could fall?
Or are you refering to the sound quality?
I would mount them much more securely than the cheesy factory bracket .(I don't mean to take a swipe at Polk, but this one screw hanger they have on here is much less secure than a full band attached to ceiling joists with lag screws!)"I keep tryin' to think, but nuthin' happens". -
if you ceiling mount, are you planning on the speakers firing to the front & rear of the room, or to the sides? (i am guessing front to rear since you prefer dipole)
also, what is your ceiling height and room dimensions? -
And , depending on which sounds better,(I'm thinking they'll sound better facing woofers front), I'll be using a rear center also.
Ceilings are just short of 8."I keep tryin' to think, but nuthin' happens". -
soudwise, i've never heard an f/x speaker in this configuration, but i would imagine it would give you close to the same effect as the side dipole position. as long as you can anchor those things up there well enough, i guess your good to go, if there is no other option... i would say that adding a single rear channel to the f/x's in that configuration may not give you as 'broad' of a rear soundstage as if they were along the side walls, simply because with you rears, basically in the center of the room (directly above listening position), they are going to be filling the center soundstage with sound already, and the rear center won't be as apparent due to loss of lateral seperation... just my thoughts on the matter, never heard of this before. ask ken at polk customer service, see what his thoughts are on this matter...
