    He must have really liked it. It might go pretty cheap. It probably doesn't sound like it has somebody's name engraved. Might call for a trip to the local welding/metal working shop.

    It's a SSN most likely. You see things like that when it was owned by service members, although most of the smart ones put it on the back....not the front. And no, you won't be "buffing" it out without doing the entire face, that's a crazy statement.

    Just say it's a custom built Carver amp signed by the builder and given a special serial number :D

    No kidding. You'd have to remove the front and have the whole thing ground down. The lettering would be gone, but so would the engraving.
