So the new (to me) amp is giving me hassles IMO. When i turn on i get a pop from the speakers...not a loud one, but enough to hear. also when i change the channels (FM) i get a pop as well...Anyone chime in on this one? The amp seems to play fine, no distortion lights on or anything like that..Somthing going bad in the adcom?

The amp does *pop* when u turn it on... and when you turn it off, the speakers will make noise for a bit, for like a second....

As for the noise in changing, that is probally the preamp...

Do you have another stereo handy you can hook the amp up to, for testing? Is there some kind of gain control that is too high?

I have the Oink 801 but no way i am unhooking that thing...that would be an all day affair. Was thinking of hooking up another pair of speakers to see if it is the M 10s but i doubt it...It just started when i hooked up the adcom as when i use the HK by itself it doesnt do it. It has to be the amp, Everything is hooked up right.

Maybe a grounding issue. Have you taken the cover off to see if there is anything that looks obviously wrong?

You could just run a single rca from one on the Oinks preamp outs (set to All channel St) to a single input on the adcom, then check each input on the adcom for the problem.

drag the Rti's of your choice in there and see if its somehow the M10's... If it didnt do it on the rotel, or the Dynakit i highly doubt its the pre-amp. Its plugged straight to the wall i believe... It all started when you got the adcom, so i suspect its simply the adcom amp.. Had we not used it on 2 other amps with no problem i would think otherwise, I know you dont want to think its the amp... But i think it is unfortunatly.. :(

drives them pretty good. sounds alot better than just the HK driving them. More bright , but all around not bad for 125.00. Gonna wait to get this pre from Mike to see before i cause a scene with the seller :)

So the pre on the way? you could try that... I noticed the bios voltage higher when i ran the tube on your HK, then when i took it home was back to normal... Im thinking it has a high output voltgage and its driveing the amp harder or something. Try the preamp and see what it does.

You know it has that "loudness" button on the HK that might have something to do with it...I'll be sending the Money this week for him to pick her up :)

Interesting you say that. Loudness boosts the bass and treble at low volumes but not at higher volumes, and you said there wasn't a problem at higher volumes, right? May or may not be related I guess. Have you tried Adcom support, they might know right away "Sounds like part 'b' went bad, we can replace that for 'x' amount."

    good luck

i think when you have your receiver turned on.. then the Adcom comes on.. it will make a popping sound.. or it's vice versa.. i can't remember which is the one.

Sorry little confusion. Faster was talking about his bios .."I noticed the bios voltage higher when i ran the tube on your HK"
So i just mentioned about the Loudness button that may have caused this on his tube. This has nothign to do with the Popping.
What i ment was that you just cant hear the Pop at loud levels only at low levels...meaning the Music carrys over the POpping so u cant hear it.

    Make sense?

    What's your power up sequence?

Amp on LAST, off FIRST? There is nothing wrong with your amp, imo. Have you tried it with a different preamp?

A thump on startup is not uncommon, but if it's thumping between sources, it's amplifying something from the control amplifier (pre).

    Cheers,
    Russ

Was 1st, 1st so i can drain the power in the caps when i was done. Will turn on last now. So the thumping between sources, will it fry the amp?

It is your speakers that will take the brunt of the 'thump'.

Anytime you are dealing separates, always amp on last, off first.

He's saying, its "most likely" the pre-amp is where the noise is, and the adcom is amplifying the noise. I would wait for the adcom pre you have coming or try it on the Onkyo see if it go's away.

Nah, JK - I hope you find out what is wrong....but it sounds normal to me, other than the pop during changing sources....

I have a GFA-545, had it for 10 years now. Not one single problem, ever! The thumping is normal and is not harmful in any way, shape or form. You should however turn the amp off first to drain the caps and then turn off other components. Go to Adcom's web site for an explanation of why Adcom amps do this. It is explained in the owners manual also. If you didn't get one you can d/l it from the website.

As far as the other problem it sounds like the pre/control amp switching. Why I don't know, but most likely it's not the amp that is causing the problem

    Hope this helps
