Yeah. Both the 3950 and 3960 are used extensively for mods. If interested, send me a PM.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

The 3950 once moded is a killer player. I havnt compared it to a moded 3960 but I under stand they are close. I have moded four 3950 so far & keeping one for me. One shipped out one 2 wks ago & the customer is very pleased! I have another 3950 to be shipped in a few days to a customer, he wants a IEC installed with 12 awg wires from the IEC to the power pcb, need to install, test than ship! The players out of the box sounds pretty good but with the mods they sound real good, & for the price hard to beat!

steveinaz -- your 3950 was shipped to you yesterday. Just curious -- do you plan on modding it yourself?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Cool. Money order is coming via US Priority Mail. Don't know if I''ll mod it; it's actually for the "patio system." I have a walkman hooked up to the Yamaha receiver right now, and its a pain in the butt, not to mention low-fidelity.
Thanks bud for a great price and your quick response.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

how much do modded Toshibas go for?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
I've done a few for $250 total including shipping. I'm not sure what ecz is doing them for. Takes about 8 hours work + 70 for the player + 60 for the parts. Really a lot of fun to do. Some guys on the audioasylum site are doing it for 450.

I've heard alot of good things about madmaxs' mods. I think we should call it the "Madmax Thunder Dome Tosh." Catchy huh? Like the "Pjdami Power Pytyhon."
man, I'm good at this...Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
What mods are made and what are their effects? I've seen people talk about these mods but no one has said what they do (or at least from the threads I've seen).

Danger Boy,
The tosh 3950 & 3960 sound very good stock & much better when modded. I have moded a bunch of 3950 & have sent players from LA to IL. The players dont cost much & the parts for the mods are reasonable. I purchase parts usually in 10+ peices or more for a price break & usually enough for 3 players. I just had a player ship to Ca. this morning. I try to keep my prices down by working on the players anytime I have time during the day, & by modding a player & just putting it on the side until sold. If the customer wants a IEC Ill than at that time install the iec & larger pc from the iec to the power pcb. My prices for a 3950 w/standard mods $199 / Upgraded mod player (futuretech gold IEC & DH lab cable from iec to power pcb) & standard iec power cord $235 / reference version same as upgraded but with 1.5meter DH lab Power plus pc w/wattgate plug end & iec end both hospital grade $299. For Club Polk members shipping is included.
