DVI question

I found the following statement on an HT website I was reading...is this true or not?
Thanks as always...
I was looking at getting a player with DVI, but my TV is CRT based, so now I'm wondering...FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT DVI IT IS FOR SETS WITH FIXED PIXEL DISPLAYS ( PLASMA / DLP / LCD ). YOU WILL ONLY SEE A REAL IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE WITH A FIXED PIXEL DISPLAY WHEN USING DVI! True you will have a "digital" path to your set, but if your set is CRT based, you will not reap a real reward in terms of picture quality. YOU WILL WITH A FIXED PIXEL SET
Thanks as always...

To be honest, this really wouldn't surprise me if it was true, and it would certainly coincide with reports I've received from customers about component and dvi on their crt tv's. In fact, I had one guy tell me that the component connection actually looked better than dvi. If this is true though, why would companies bother including dvi connections on crt tv's? Shouldn't they just include more component video inputs and call it a day? Tell ya what. The next slow day at circuit city (probably wednesday) i'll take the samsung dvi dvd player we have and hook it up to the 40 inch sony xbr through component and dvi and I'll see if I can tell any difference. Though keeping in mind that my opinion is not the end all be all I'll ask a couple of the other guys their opinions as well.

Not sure how fair the test was, but on my Hitachi 51" RPTV using my HD cable box, my $200 component cables were significantly better than the DVI that comes with the Samsung 931.

they put DVI connectors on CRT for those people who don't have a built in HDTV decoder.. so they can hook up their external HD to the DVI or component cable(s)
i'd like to check out a DVI signal on my CRT as well.
I'm all about sqeaking out as much PQ from my components as I can.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
