i've been looking for some nice floorstanding speakers to replace my 7500 satellites in the front.

circuit city has the 600i's for just $200 a piece...

...but they also have the 55i's for $200...

...but then i'd have to buy stands...

...should i spring for the 600i's?!

ALL HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!

either of those speakers for $400/pair is a bargain, great sound for the money. personally, i would prefer the 55i's w/ the double 6.5" drivers over the singles in the 600's. that does make them about $80 more expensive though, after you purchase a good pair of stands. the 600's are a NICE step-up from you sats. up front though. either way, you are going to be a happier listener...:D

Ditto what juice said also the 55s are bi-ampable/wireable which is a big step over the 600s. If you could get the 800s IMO I would pick them over the 55s. Also the 600s could make nice rears. But it is your ears which have to be happy with the choice, you will find someone who loves the 600s and has them. There might also be someone who had them and took them back. So make your ears happy because you will have to live with these speakers for many years. Part of the fun is doing the demos.

i really like the biwiring part of the 55i's, but unfortunately, i just turned 18 and i have absolutely no idea what this is or how it works. i've read about it before, but i didn't understand that much.

i might go with the 600i's since they're more my size. the room that i'm in is 11 x 15' with only 7' ceilings. the 7500's are plenty for such a small space, but i would still like something a little more for my 2-channel.

...do you think the 55i's would be too overpowering when paired with the 7500 satellites? that would be my main concern.

thanks for all your help, i'll post again when i get back from cc!

My thoughts are grab the 55s and buy some stands, thet are smoother than Elle Mcpersons iner thigh.the 600s are nice but they look a little on the cheap side. regards Fabian:)

well, i just got back from circuit city, and well... only open box 55i's. :(

i spent a while listening to the 600i, but it wasn't nearly as smooth sounding as the 55i.

i've decided on the 55i's, but i'm going to have to order them online. i'm really considering picking them up from crutchfield.com at $400 + shipping... anyone dealt with crutchfield before?

thank you all for your help!

    i know, i know... here's another question.

i'm know considering rt55i's in the front...

...cs245i in the center, until i can save up for the 400i or 40...

...and either 35i's or 600i's in the back.

i can trade in my 7500's at circuit city and only have to pay 50 bucks out of pocket for the 245i and 600i's.

what do you older, more educated people think about these setups?

what is it with polk speakers? you plan on buying a pair and you end up buying a whole new system...

damn you polk, damn you! ;)

    ...either way.

I, personally, and for HT use, like towers. 600, 245, and 35 is a BITCHIN setup for HT. I am willing to bet, at a reference volume, in a double blind test, you would not be able to tell the difference in the 600 and 55 with a movie rolling....

I LIKE the 245, its very similar to the 300 I had for years, with 800's up front. I think the smaller drivers in the avg room do better on vocals than the 6.5's in the 400. Of course there are more members than I can count on both hands that will say otherwise......that's how I hear it though....

Perfect timbre? 5, count em, FIVE identical, I mean IDENTICAL speakers all the way around. I don't care about driver config, I mean the same MODEL. 5 rt35's, 5 rt600's, (sorry joe, not 5 245's)...but hey... A perfect world, we do not live in...

Let us know, but if you want my key tibit of advice, read this:

Forget pricing, forget upgrade policies. Stop, and LISTEN. What do you hear? Don't just save a couple bucks now, to only spend more in 6 months.....

    Cheers,
    Russ

(check out the system showcase for RonP's setup, 55 with 400 and 25i's)

crutchfield is great! dealt with them many times, their customer service is up there with polks! i sent you an email on how you can savea couple of bucks off you order too...:D

on the 7500's trade in, if you are going for the 55i's for the front's, i would suggest, maybe forget the 600's in the rear, go with the 35i's for the rears, save a little $, and go for the 400i center channel. if you're thinking your going to get the 400 eventually, i would just by it now. it should only be aroung $100 out of your pocket for the upgrade to the 35/400 combo, and then the money for the 55i's. you would have a kick **** system...:D

Damn Juice ditto again, the 55s are going to be more dtailed IMO for your fronts. As for the 245, I agree with Russ about the smaller drivers but prefer the CS350.
It is still your ears my friend, and they are the ONLY ones who can tell YOU what is best for YOU. Seems they gave ya the answer already. IMO the 55 fronts, 400 center, and 35s for rears would be a serious system. If your going for the 400 don't waste money on the 245. IMO the 600s would be great for rears with just the 2 drivers its a 35i tower. Crutchfield it great used them many times, don't hesitate to use them. They are Polk certified, too.
Biwire/biamping makes your speakers sound better, in short. When you get the 55s or if that all can be explained for you.
After reading your post again. If you trade in your 7500 for the 245 and 600 for rears and get te 55s for fronts, from Crutchfield, before they are GONE FOREVER IMO would be your best bet. You could also trade up to the 400 with the 245 correct? Go for it.

thanks guys... i'm going to order a pair of black 55i's from crutchfield this evening, $410 shipped!

i really do prefer the 400 over the 245, but unfortunately, i don't really have anywhere to put a speaker as big as the 400. i've still got a 27" tv and there's not much room on top. the 7500 center channel just barely fits on there, so i might even be pushing it with the 245. but hey, there's always the 30 day in home trial period! ;)

as for the rears, i think i'm going to go for the 35's. i've already spent a good bit of time measuring and drilling into the concrete blocks that i have for walls, so i will probably stick with the wall mounting.

as for my 650 sub, i'm considering trading it in for a velo. i listened to a 12 inch yesterday at cc and it rocked! the bass was a little punchier than my 650 and seemed to go a little bit lower.

once i get everything, i'll try to borrow my sister's digital camera and take some pics. of course, i'll wait until my velour curtains and reclining la-z-boy sofa arrive. :)

thanks a million, guys... you're the best!
