BOOOOO!!!!!!! What a disappointment. The only way you will like this movie, is if you are into the symbolism thing. Definitely not the movie they are advertising. I would not reccomend paying $8 to see this at the movies. Wait for the rental.

The idea of the movie is pretty cool, but I went there looking to see people get stalked by something. That's hardly what happens. It was almost a cool movie, the first 30 min was pretty cool, and then they killed it. I don't want to give any of this movie away so thats why Im not being specific. I'm pretty upset, I thought this movie was gonna rock. :(

Thanks Airplay, I had a feeling about this one. M. Night has not impressed me with the last couple either. Good promo's and decent concepts but he just can't pull them together. After the break he took I figured just maybe this was going to be better - guess not......... :(

    M. Night did a good job with 6th Sense, but Signs and Unbreakable bit the big one. No reason to pay full price for this one, I'll wait till it hits the shelves at BB.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions Airplay.

I think the problem with this movie is it was kept too under wraps and the hype superceded the film itself. No, I haven't seen it, but that's my guess.

I think the major problem with this movie is that based on the trailers they show, people expect a movie where people are being stalked by mysterious creatures that live in the woods. The beginning of the movie follows this idea, but after the first hour you find out something that just makes you want to get up and leave. ( I know i said 30 min before but I thought about it and its probably more like an hour). This movie falls short of signs and is just barely above unbreakable. Definitely disappointing when you realize what the movie is REALLY about.

the movie was a disappointment. more so because it had some similarities to Signs.

I still like how M. Night Shyamalan creates suspese in his movies. I was disappointed in the Village. I was hoping he would do something different with this movie. But like i said earlier. it reminded me to much of Signs.

Some pretty slow parts to the movie. Acting was good by the lead actors/actresses.

I give it 2.5 stars out of 5

I thought it was rather very good.

    ***SPOILERS***

First and foremost, this is a love story. Secondly, there is no twist as likened unto his previsous films. More so, just the telling of a story that is told very well with little bits and pieces fed to the audience throughout the film. The pacing was very well laid out. The acting was done very well by all and the visuals were excellent.

A must buy DVD for me.

This guy is all promo's and no delivery. Sounds like BOSE.
His name sold the movie. He could have been making armpit noises for 2 hours and debuted at #1.
Just saw him on Howard Stern - he has a great sence of humor and a smoking wife...............

Although I haven't seen The Village, I think this guy really was a one-hit-wonder. 6th Sense was great, Unbreakable sucked, Signs was a bit better but still a let down, and this new one looks like it's all hype. Even Shyamalan himself said in an interview "The movie is really a love story, the scary stuff is just the draw." Well, excuse me, but if I wanted to see a love story about simple folk I'd rent Witness. I want to get scared, damn it. I think that's the problem with Night's films. He doesn't respect his audience enough to give them something really rewarding. He tries to be pious and deep, but he shrouds the films in gimmick. Signs was all build up with little payoff, and was really just about a preacher coming to terms with his faith. It wasn't a bad film, but it wasn't great either. 6th Sense was the only one that had real truth to it. The end was a surprise, but it was true to the story. The subsequent ones have been very forced and contrived. That whole thing with the wife's last words seeming to forcast the future in Signs was really clumsy.
Another issue with these films is Night's inability to really choose what he wants to deliver. As I said, he tries to be all about profound character stories, but he thinks he needs to bring in this supernatural element to attract audiences. The studios get a hold of the films, and solely promote the creepy/supernatural element to these films, without giving audiences a glimpse of the "subjective" story. So we all go in expecting a horror film, and get a love story between a blind girl, a mama's boy and a ****. No wonder we're let down. Nights films are very textbook in their layout. He may have good pacing, but his dialogue is more forced with every film, and it all seems too film student to me. He always makes the objective/subjective or inside/outside elements so obvious, it's like taking a film class rather than watching a movie. A long rant, I know, but someone really needs to deflate the hype surrounding this guy. Give me Ridley Scott or Steven Spielberg any day. Even though their films may be hit and miss, they always display an immense amount of style and mastery in their presentation. Catch Me If You Can is one of the best films in recent years, and Gladiator kicks ****.

but honestly.... if the Village had been promoted as a "love story" how many of us would even have considered going to see it? i probably wouldn't have.

I don't hate M. Night. I think he's got a lot of talent. Where i find fault is with this movie is the fact that is so closely resembles Signs.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone.. but after you see it.. if you do... see if you don't feel the same way.

Was just hoping for something better, different and new from M. Night.

I thought 6th Sense was his worst. I rank'em like this...

    #1 Unbreakable
    #2 Signs
    #3 The Village
    #4 6th Sense

I've enjoyed all his films and I look forward to the next.

wow... i can't believe anyone could even come close to rating unbreakable as his best movie. I saw the 6th Sense and enjoyed it as did most. Then I saw Unbreakable in the theater and people were audibly PISSED at the end of it, that is, if they didn't leave in the middle. After Unbreakable, I didn't even consider watching Signs and after reading reviews w/spoilers I'm so glad I didn't waste my time and money on that one.

One hit wonder all the way.

Wow, I can't believe how many people don't like his movies, expect for "The Sixth Sense" of course. I think his movies just keep getting better and better. I haven't seen "The Village" yet(going tonight with the wife), but I'm sure we're both going to love it. As for "Unbreakable" and "Signs", I can't even begin to tell you how much love I have for these movies. They bring me to tears everytime I watch them, especially "Signs". My wife and I think it has the best ending of any movie we've ever seen. It's extremely powerful, yet so subtle. Just like the rest of the movie. Here's how I'd rank them...

    Signs....A+
    Unbreakable...A
    The Sixth Sense...A

I think he is partially just a victim of the success he had with the Sixth Sense. While you only see the difference between the Sixth Sense and the others as A+ versus A, quite a few others like myself see it as A+ versus D/F. I know there are far worse movies out there than Unbreakable and Signs, but those two are far worse than the Sixth Sense in my opinion.

It all boils down to personal preference and I don't think anyone is wrong in liking or disliking a movie, but I have to say it seems *alot* of people were not happy with Unbreakable in particular. As I said, when I saw the movie, lots of people left during the movie and afterwards, I specifically heard *many* people complaining about the movie, and some even wanting a refund. I have to say that was the ONLY movie I've ever been to that people reacted so outwardly negative to.

edit: woops, just saw A+ signs, not sixth sense, can't read.

I think the guy has obvious talent as a filmmaker, and of course opinions on his films will vary. Personally, though, I'd just like to see him start making films, instead of gimmicks. Movies don't have to be all about the twist in the end. Not all movies need some great big revelation to be good. I'd like to see him use his talents on a film that didn't revolve around how much he can surprise them in the end. And some help writing wouldn't hurt.

I second the above statements. Opinions will vary, but he should try something new. He has the talent, but he doesn't pull it together very well or even make it that interesting. I think he tries too hard.

the acting was good? i didnt even know the blind girl was blind till they said something because she always knew where people were....now i know blind people can hear but how many blind people do u know that can look into your eyes when they talk to you? and sigourney weaver? she sounded like she was reading the script off a prompter, no emotion involved. that other dude from gladiator and signs...the mama's boy, im so tired of his fake **** crying. i hated it in gladiator and i hated it in the village. i wanted to see a REAL pilgrim age town, with REAL monsters, and REAL blood and guts. i got a love story with fake monsters and a bunch of skinned animals, woo who.

    M. Night Shittymovie needs to get a new job and stop wasting people's time and money, not to mention stop building up his horrible movies. Problem is, I know he sucks and I still get pulled into the hype a little. He makes them come off like they're going to be these amazing movies but after you finish watching it, you want to kill someone for how horrible it was. 6th Sense was awesome but since then, he keeps going downhill and The Village was no different. I would rather watch the guy make armpit sounds than watch another one of his attempts at being a movie. God I hate that guy...
