Integrated Amps & Receivers

I got a question about the difference in sound quality between integrated amplifiers and receivers. I'm thinking of getting a Marantz receiver, either a 6300 or a 7200. Right now I have a Yamaha AX-592 integrated amp for my fronts. Normally I would just feed the Yamaha from the main preouts on the Marantz, but I need the shelf space to place a center speaker, so that's not really an option. I was just wondering how much of a difference in sound quality there is between integrated amps and receivers. Has anyone ever tried switching before, and if so, how'd it turn out? Thanks.

Others will chime in with better answers...but there is a significant difference IMO...
You'll be hard pressed to find a receiver with an amp section equal to that of separates or an integrated...
having said that, I don't know squat about that Yammie, so I don't know if that's a step forward or not...
FWIW, I'd get the 7200 over the 6300 any day becuase I think the amp section is better in that unit...even though it's older... -
I would say that if you plotted the incremental difference between receiver, integrated, and seperates on a scale of 1 to 10, it would be like this:
(1) Baseline: Receiver
(7) Integrated
(10) SeperatesSource: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
I'm adding my $0.02. I think everyone agrees that receivers just don't cut it for quality sound. That said, I have to say that there are integrateds that will put seperates costing much more to shame.Political Correctness'.........defined
