Care to expand on why they were better than the R40s?

sure. first off they can handle a ton of power. my normal listening level is pretty loud (concidering im a punk teenager who drives around with 2 12" subs in my trunk) and they barley work at all. The bass response is also excelent. i dont have the bass turned up that loud on them becuase i have 2 powerd subs in the room but when i turn those off there is still a clear full sound coming from them. they also have a realy wide sound, which i like. they do an excelent job of reflecting of the walls.

its not that the r40s were bad, im just trying to go bigger. can you realy compare a speaker with 4 6-1/2 woofers and a 1" tweeter to another speaker with 2 6" woofers and a 3/4" tweeter? im trying to construct an affordable system that i will not need to replace for a loooong time. these monitors kinda fell into my lap becuase of the deal i got on them. i didnt realy listen and compare them at cc beacuse i knew they would sound great.

I am currnetly using the r40s as my rears and im not sure how much i like that. i realy like the r40s but they have a very direct sound, which isnt the best for rear speakers. i might switch back to my bose 201s, or buy som bipoles.

i hope i answered your question. if u have any more just ask, i got all the time in the world

Thanks for the followup TecmoBowl. I have the R40s and just wanted to hear your comparison. Glad to hear you like them. I can understand the desire to go bigger. I find the R40s have a pretty decent soundstage, but, for an unsubbed 2 channel experience, they are not the **** of the walk.

with the way the speakers in my room are set up i need them to reflect. my speakers are unfortunatly in the corner of the room and i need them to bounce of the walls. if i was able to set up the sound as i wanted, (optimal sound) then i wouldnt want them to reflect. i have to deal with what i have.

?????? Reflected sound waves are bad no matter where your speakers are sitting in the room. There is no reason you should desire side wall reflections just because your speakers are in the corner. There is really nothing wrong with your speakers being in the corner. You are probably getting a nice bass boost by having them in the corner. I guess I just don't understand what you are trying to say. As long as you like the speakers, that is all that counts. Have fun.:)

congrats on getting the 70's, but i don't think you mean reflect, usually when sound reflects you get a very muffled "busy" sound, it tends to sound bad. For example i run the soundboard at my church sometimes, the acoustics of the sanctuary are HORRIBLE, lol. there so much sound that reflects everywhere it's quite a challenge to get it to sound good. I think you might be trying to say how the sound projects?

No offense, but you're on an Audio forum, you're going to get called on that type of stuff. It's part of the education process for everyone here and just occurs naturally, it's how we all learn, from each other...

You'll see people cracking on each other all the time...

yeah make sure your pics are to large of a file. also make sure you use IE as your web browser when you upload the pics. I tried Netscape and it wouldn't work.

uh,.. respectfully, to avoid confusion, some reflections are good, even necessary. humbly, i think we can all agree that control is the goal.
