rm 7200 vs hsu v-12

Just got the rm 7200 from CC. Fairly happy with sound, but not with the sub. It's cracking lightly on hard drum hits, even with stereo at low voluume, with the voluume knob on the sub at full. I hear this with the mains turned off. I'm presently using the H/K avr25II.

Anyone hear the hsu v-12 Ventriloquist compared to the rm 7200s?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

    UMMMMMMMMMM

You shouldnt turn the volume knob on the subwoofer past *HALF WAY*

    ..........

I think you need a BIGGER subwoofer ;)

Gonna have to agree with Sid on this one. The sub that comes witht he 7200 is decent, but not great. If you like the sound of the 7200 and want small speakers check out the 6700's. They use the exact same drivers as the 7200's and are only one inch thicker from front to back. They don't come with a sub so you could pick out soemthign that would better suit your tastes.

Hey Sid, you're right . I DO need a bigger sub.

Now guys, the instructions say to start at 12 o'clock, then adjust according to taste.
Well, my taste is always a lot of bass!:D

Turning the knob to half way does clean up the sound, found myself boosting the bass on the receiver to compensate.......I'm not a 'direct' sound kind of guy. But it still is cleaner

The sound is like a slight rattle that sounds like something loose. With mains off, the noise appears to follow the movement of the speaker. Again, at VERY low volume. It still is there with the volume knob at half way.

This is my first sub(you've prob, figured that out already) so maybe this is normal. If not I need to know.

Jeff, I'm not sure I like the sound, I'm trying to wean myself from mains that used a front loaded 15 incher with a mid & high horn. I agreed to go with sats (she wanted Blose) and hoped these would fill that sound as close as possible. She likes my old sound, but wants to get the big stuff out of here!

The high reveiws of the v-12 and glowing endorsements about hsu's subs is what's got me wondering. I'm trying to get the best sound for the money.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Sounds like it is maxing out...regardless of where your volume knob is...

Any noise other than heart pounding bass from your subwoofer is NOT normal...lol

compensating on the receiver, going past 0 only means MORE distortion.

You would be better off putting the receiver on -5 and turning up the subwoofer.

With that said, you would be better off boxing up the subwoofer, putting it on ebay....

    and then going to...

    www.svsubwoofers.com ;)

SVS will beat HSU in low end extention (WA LA, Movies)

I'm still in the 30 day return time at CC, so getting rid of the system isn't a problem.

I haven't called polk yet to ask their ideas.

I still can't imagine that I'm over driving the sub at the low volume of the reciever. I have it wired with the RCA connectors, not the sub out or speaker wire connectors.

A good sub is an important part of any system, but with sub/sat systems, it is critical. If you are not happy with the sub, I would just return the whole thing and go a different direction instead of the hassle of selling the sub.
Of course if you absolutely love the 7200 speakers, it may be worth it, but I would try something else.

    Any sat system suggestions?

BTW, thanks Vr3MxStyler2k3, for the link for the SVS subs.

I'm very new to this substuff and don't have any idea of has the good stuff.
