Need SUBWOOFER recommendations

I recently purchased the following POLK speakers for my HT:

2 RTi8 Fronts
1 CSi5 Center
2 RTi8 Surrounds
2 RTi6 Surround Rear

I am using Karmon Kardon AVR-630 receiver. I am looking for a nice subwoofer. My HT room is 40'x25'. Any recommendations for under $1,000.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for your prompt reply. I know about HSU and SVS - but I am unable to decide which subwoofer (size, wattage etc.) should I go for.

    Any ideas, what I should be looking for. Sorry, if I sound naive - I am totally new to this stuff!

    Though I don't own one, the SVS PB2-ISD has got to be the best sub for under $1000 that I've seen. $899 + shipping at www.svsubwoofers.com. It's stats and components are unrivaled at this pricepoint.

    I own a Velodyne CHT-15 and it goes loud and low. $478 + shipping at http://ww1.onecall.com/PID_12837.htm I love this sub, but the SVS will be taking it's place down the road.

    Man, that's a friggin huge room!! Is that all HT space? I assume from your speaker setup that you will be using primarily for movies?

    I'll be honest, finding a sub for under 1K that will fill that entire area with bass will be difficult, thus my question above.

    If you can spend 1K, I'd look at getting that PB2-ISD or maybe the PC Ultra (their best cylinder sub). If you email SVS with the info you posted here, they'll give you reccomendations...and they won't oversell you either...

    The HSU and Adire subs are nice also, but I think you'll get the most out of an SVS for what you're looking for...

    For that size room they'll most likely be recommending a PB2+ or beyond ...

    my vote goes with a PB2+

    His room is about the same size as my Dad's room and a PC Ultra just won't cut it...

    The PB2+ will be the best choice, although a lil over 1,000

    That is a very big room. I am running a PB2-ISD and I love it. That would be the smallest sub you should go with. I think the PB2+ might be what you are looking for. Where do you live? Ask around here and other forums if anyone has an SVS you can listen to. If you find one in your area I'm sure he will beg you to come over to feel it.

    Thanks all for your comments. I live in Cleveland, OH (please don't hold that against me!). I haven't seen any of these brands in stores around me. Can you suggest where I can find one?

    Not sure about the others, but SVS is only available online. Don't let that stop you, there are TONS of very positive reviews all over audio forums on the internet. Give 'em a call at the very least.

    Svs is only sold online, but I think they make them in Cleveland. Maybe they have a place where you could pick them up.

    There is a website, I forget the name, where there is a list of SVS owners in your area and you can contact them for a demo. Maybe someone else knows the name of the site?

    PB2+ if you can't go DIY route. Audiogon had two used CS Ultras with an amp for sale for $1499, that wouldn't be bad deal either.

    For that size room, it will be hard to fill with just $1000. If you can't go above that, you might want to look into building one yourself or getting a PB2-ISD.

    PB2+ at least. That room is insanely HUGE. It is almost the size of my entire house. Unless it is a studio/loft, making it not a room for say. What are you using as a moniter/tv?

    The room is a dedicated HT in the finished lower level of my 4000 sq.ft. home. I am using the Panasonic L500U LCD projector projecting a 10 ft wide picture.

    SVS has a factory in Youngstown. Give them a call and they will talk to you and let you know what will work. If you can get to their offices or their factory you are a lucky man.

    :eek: With that size room and only $1000 to spend you will be under sold. IMO you would need 2 B4's to fill that size room with what some have working over their room with PB2+'s (myself included). What is your ceiling height? I would at the very least think about putting in another couple hundred more and get the PB2+. I don't mean to disifranchise you or try to get you to spend more then you are ready to but the room size you will need it unless you are concidering partitioning the room with a wall later on. That is one huge room and if you want to drive to my house to see the PB2+ in action you are welcome, as for SVS letting you pick one up they will not because of ins. purposes (that is what they told me anyhow), I live 10-15 min. from them and had to wait to get mine.

    In addition to the size of your room, the type of subwoofer you buy will depend on placement, as well. Will the sub be placed near the listening position?

    You live in Cleveland, you could easily go to partsexpress. Partsexpress They are located in Springboro, OH. I'd recomend Polks biggest subwoofer.

    And Springboro Ohio is probably a 3 or 4 hour drive from Cleveland...

    There are a few Cleveland area SVS owners that you could probably go demo their subs at their homes. Just post a thread over at the Home Theater forum.

    Down boys! Nothing like a little piling on. Don't you think BassAce was talking about buying Parts Express's biggest sub, not Polk's? Also, a 3-4 hour drive for something cool sounds like a good Saturday morning to me!

    my sub will blow you away and i got a first run producton with a slightley mis alined vc with was the fault of tc but if i send it back i can get it re bult for free what the problem is it limits its excurson but on the new moddle that he is bulding him self will be awsome. he is also working on a sq sub and a super high excurson verson with more than 40 mm of x max

    i will highley recomend the av 15 they will blow your socks off

    I'm kinda partial to my M&K sub. I've had it for about 12 years and it still can thunder, or smoothly stroke a note - whatever is called for.

    Not to take over the thread (I will start a new one if neccesary) but has anyone compared the Parts Express 15" sub kit to the HSU VTF-3 MK 2? They are only about $80 apart from each other (12" HSU is more expensive).

    My Room is not that large, but I have a VERY open floor plan with Kitchen on 1 side of HT (completly open) and a dining room behind me (with 9' non-closable opening). While I use it mainly for HT (about 90%), I like the bass very fast and tight.
